Does anybody think that perhaps, barring injury, Dabo and

Cade have made a nonpublished decision to redshirt him and save a year of eligibility for down the road? In past years, Dabo would have gotten his backup some plays in the tail end of this type of game, just to get a taste of the big stage, big crowd feel. The fact that Cade never budged off the bench is telling, to me. The fact that an experienced option exists in Hunter Johnson may also factor into this decision.

Why do you care. We just beat a top 10 team and this is what you are worried about.
Geez, some of you people.

Who said he was worried? He was asking a legitimate question and not complaining. I think he has a valid point for discussion, the reason for a message board!

Sorry, just don't get it. The fascination with Cade and why you would ask this question.
I really don't care and wonder why others do. DJ is doing awesome and winning against top 20 and top 10 teams and this question comes up.
It is unnecessary and ridiculous in my book.

Saving a year of eligibility for Cade is a good thing for

Both Cade and Clemson. That is why this is a legitimate question. Has nothing to do with DJ per se. Keep in mind, we are 1 DJ injury away from either Cade or Hunter starting. Being ready for that possible went is wise.

That would be my guess 76er. It makes sense so he can save a year of eligibility.

I don't think someone with his talent will be around for that extra year. I'd be willing to bet that we will see Cade in the next game as well as several others as the season unfolds.

Think about why it is good to redshirt Cade if possible
Oct 3, 2022, 10:44 AM

1) He gets another year to get himself ready to be the starter. 2) It gives Vizzina a year to possibly redshirt too and get himself ready to start soon after Cade. 3) And don’t forget, school work early on is the toughest to plow through. Being a starter plus that school load is double whammy. This way he can focus on school work while getting his body and mechanics ready to bust out next year.

Exactly… it is an insurance policy for Cade to redshirt

Because if he ever wants to transfer, it gives him some slack if he finds he needs it. Also, he can knock out course load in the meantime to graduate!

I don't think bringing in a backup would've made sense in the NC State game. It was very much still a game on our final full drive when we scored the touchdown to go up 30-13, and you wouldn't want to take a risk in turning the ball over with a backup in when we took a knee to end the game after the onside kick.

Good question & observation (at least IMO), 76er.
I'd guess that, no, we have no intention of RS'ing Cade.
Dabo seems to think that we have a real shot at CFP again. In that scenario, it's all hands on deck.
We will play Cade as much as possible to give him as much experience as possible. The only thing in the past two weeks that has kept Cade out of the game is our need to win each game, and the fact that playing DJ for the entire has been our best means of winning.

in a heartbeat if the season were threatened due to injury or just flat out terrible play by DJ. I'm just saying, why waste a year if you don't need to.

Interesting, but Cade is one unfortunate play away for seeing the field.

Can’t imagine us purposefully giving up that much depth. Even with HJ’s experience.

RS can be burned at any time, it's not a permanent decision.

It just won’t be a game with the inside track to the Atlantic on the line. Unless it’s a have too.

If Cade is truly has good as Dabo says he won't be in Clemson to for more than 3 years so I don't see the possibility of him redshirting. He'll get more out of playing even against way lesser competition like USuC than redshirting.

get him time when games allow for it in case of injury or illness. Just like when DJ started against BC and ND when Trevor was out

score differential. Cade only has 1 game left to maintain redshirt status. Unless we have a bunch of close games, I think it is very unlikely Cade red shirts.

Good question and can definitely understand the thought process. IMO I doubt he redshirts but the last 2 games haven’t presented a lot of developmental opportunities. I think this weekend may give us a clearer picture.

When would he have gotten in?
Oct 3, 2022, 10:44 AM
|
|
At the start of the last drive in which we had the ball, it was 23-13 with over 7 minutes left. That is not yet out of reach.
Cade played in the first 3 games, and then didn't get into the last 2 as they were never put away while we had the ball.
There's really nothing to indicate he's being redshirted yet.

Agreed with the above poster. I can’t imaging redshirting a 2nd string player. He needs to play as much as possible when the scoreboard allows so he is ready to contribute at a high level should DJ not be able to play. Unless HJ is good enough to be the 2nd team guy (which I doubt) there is near zero chance of a RS

I don't want to sound ugly here but...

I suspect DJ needs the game experience more than Cade at this point. DJ seems to be progressing more than average for a QB who has a full year at the starting job. I think Dabo is providing opportunity for him to grow and already has confidence that Cade can step in if DJ get hurt or other problems.
I wondered about a red shirt for Cade but that would only sacrifice a year of him playing for us because if he is what I think he is he will exit for a fat NFL check year after next either way. Good for him, I say but don't commit to wasting him with a red shirt this season. It might work out that way but I don't think so.

We will already have some congestion at QB even if Cade doesn’t RS if Vizzina is as advertised. Saturday probably doesn’t apply because it was still a competitive game until our last score. Then the Wolfpack burned the clock for their final score. All that was left was to not mess up the onside kick, then let DJ take a knee.

Cade has only played in 3 games

Redshirts can play in up to 4 games. I don't think Dabo was concerned about that Saturday night. With games against BC, Louisville, SCar on the radar, we have a couple more opportunities for blowouts that Cade could enter late.
I do think he might redshirt, but we won't know for sure until we reach blowout status in a few more games.
