How often does it get stuffed for no gain or a loss?
Seems to me it gets blown up A LOT, but we seem determined to keep running it.

The WRs still don't know how to block on that play...

Far more often than not, it's a wasted play that should be removed from the playbook

how many completed passes and running plays do we have this season that ended up getting blown up and tackled behind the LOS. It seems like big plays are keeping us in games more this season. A few years back we racked up the big plays and won by 4-5 TDs. The results at Pitt seem like the new normal - a few big plays and a lot of three-and-outs after a long yardage third down.

I don't understand why we continually not audible out of the play when there's two defenders and one wide receiver to block of course it's not going to work

When we had guys like Ray Ray, Renfrew, Powell, Scott and Higgins. But don't seem to have to many WRs like that these days

Need to drop that play from the playbook, could really use a fast and elusive RB to toss a screen pass to every once and a while to replace it.

but it does set other things up. Not sure if the risk is worth the reward, but there is some benefit.

How about Mafah running 17 times for 17 yards on Saturday? At what stage, as a coach, do you figure that play with that player is not working? Chad Morris was one of our best two years removed from high school. And yet so many on Tnet see absolute genius in coaches calling plays.

WR screen helps reduce blitzing.
It also sets up other things.
It works for other teams. Either we're not blocking or something in our setup is giving it away.

That's my point, I guess. I understand it's purpose and potential, but our execution sucks a giant donkey dong.

Yeah, in the last few years I was complaining about the WR being unwilling to even pretend to block.
I think now it's the youth of the receivers and they may develop the skill because so much of it is effort and you can see the effort they give.

When Jeff Scott was the WR coach. And that's not coincidental.

We call it at the wrong time against the wrong defense. The WR screen is just a tool that can be used to great advantage when called at the right time. We never do that. Whoever is handling the Waffle House Menu seems to be running a scripted series of plays that have no rhyme nor reason to be called when they are.

But if it’s not being run occasionally, don’t you convey to opponents as to your other options, to which they then can better game plan?

when they are done every 3rd play then they are an easy play to blow up. Rob Spence killed our identity at Clemson when he came here. Now that's all we do.

We run the strangest screen pass in comparison to other teams I watch. It is never blocked well, and needs a new wrinkle. Also need more pre snap movement to keep the D guessing. Just brainstorming on my part.
