It also showed with Carter and Barnes, this defensive personnel, starting with Wes is just not getting max potential and making guys worse year by year. It's stupid because he only promoted Goodwin to fill in for Venables since he was under him 4 years and then does the complete opposite in coaching style....from aggressive to conservative

The Dabo sycophants would never admit any hire is a mistake until they crash and burn like Streeter and Wes (not to mention Austin and counting).
History proves those of us with the least bit of objectivity correct.

Might be something else going on, but alcohol seems to be in play here. I also think you are misusing the word sycophant. As far as objectivity, feel free to share the post(s) you are referring to and we can discuss.

In the real world, this is called being objective. In the TNET world, especially in the eyes of a Dabo sycophant, this can be seen as "bipolar."
Critical thinking is great, man; you should try it.

The argument is dumb because part of earning that huge coaching check is recruiting and evaluating talent.
The buck stops with coaching and hiring good coaches.

its both.
But the drop-off in talent is alarming... to me at least.
Offer slightly more B/c elite at HS recruiting again Be aggressive in portal to fill unavoidable holes Get better at S&C Make your OL room slightly larger to match peers. Luke would love it.

claiming that our defense this year was going to be the best in the nation due to all the talent we had.
I questioned these posts because we lost several guys to the NFL, and was told that the guys replacing them were better.
So, tell me, where did all that talent we had go?

Pumpers are divided between coaching and talent.

But they are not about to admit that this all falls under the head coaching responsibility.
Streeter and Wes were bad hires; they were both fired. Bad decisions, period, and are the same hires the pumpers defended and continued to defend. Now that Dabo agrees that there were terrible hires, they are saying the talent isn't there, which is bewildering because the SAME FEW defended Dabo not using the portal.
It's insane.

Head coaches fire guys they hired every single year. It happens, and Dabo isn’t immune from missing sometimes. Get that through your head man!
You were probably one of the guys who griped when Dabo Swinney was hired, or when he hired a HS coach named Chad Morris, or when he named a WR coach and a RB coach co-offensive coordinators. Just admit it, that’s you.

Even elite talent has to be coached up. The defense was loaded with 4 and 5* guys. If it was all based on JUST talent, you wouldn't need coaches at all. Goodwin failed in situational football and schemes

I dont agree. Our recruiting avg is higher now than we were in 2016 when our 4yr avg was under 15th and we were first tesm to win Natty with a below 10 recruiting since 2000 Stoops with Okla. Difference was coaching could develop players and we are not seeing that level when we had BV, Hobby, Brooks, etc.

Be careful. Don’t pull a muscle patting yourself on the back.
I am a strong Dabo supporter, but once we reached the mountain top and lost some of the best coordinators in the business, he decided to go within thinking that success breeds success. That wasn’t the best idea as it turned out.
Plus, DJ turned out to be a bust. That’s not necessarily Dabo’s fault, but he stuck with him too long. And it makes me sick every time I think about that 2022 SC game where we had 195 yards rushing in the first half but then abandoned the run with a double digit lead in the second half. That’s Streeter’s ignorance, but Dabo could have chewed his a$$ during the game. Still, the DJ experiment set us back.
I’m concerned about the philosophy on offense and defense where we get a lead and get conservative and soft. Our play calling has been predictable and easy to defend. It has gotten better this year, but still not enough.
Dabo’s teams have been off the past four years. We’ve only won 10+ games 3 times during that stretch and brought home a mere 2 conference championships. I think he knows how to get us back to the mountain top. It may not be happening as fast as many of you complainers want, but it’s happening. Some of y’all should appreciate the path we’ve been on and give it a rest for awhile.
That’s all I got to say about that. Football is like a box of chocolates.

I think Streeter got shafted. He made chicken salad out of chicken poop. DJ really was not the guy he was thought to be, he got Streeter canned bc you can't squeeze blood out of a turnip.
No one loved the Goodwin hire. Jumping from Analyst to DC was a massive head scratcher.
Thomas Austin needed more seasoning but he had the OL run blocking well vs stacked boxes, but his OL was prone to mental mistakes. Matt Luke was a massive win.
CJ Spiller gets alot of hate but didn't he bring in Mafah, Shipley, and Bowman? Recruiting is going to dip if you aren't winning. If CJ was the one who made the call to only run Mafah(i believe this was Dabo trying to showcase Mafah to the NFL btw) then yes he needs to find a new role.

I think DJ was a big problem for Streeter. It really limited what he could do on offense. But I blame him more than anything for the home loss to SC in 22.

improvement from the year before. We fell off immensely this year, but this is the first year under Goodwin where the defense hasn’t done its job.
Goodwin’s defense isn’t “conservative”, it’s essentially the same schemes we ran under BV. The obvious difference is fire and want-to. Goodwin seems to have lost that with the team, and hence he’s getting replaced.
Carter was who he is. He reached his peak. Not sure what you’re referring to as far as Barnes.
Regardless, the bottom line is that Makuba didn’t throw the defense under the bus. He just wanted a new system back in his home state.
When we hire a new coach, will you get on board or find fault and continue to complain about spilled milk? Some of you dudes get on here everyday just to post the same old gripes. Let it go man! We’re moving forward.
Keep in mind every coach every where has had to fire guys he hired, and Dabo isn’t immune. Wes lost the teams fire and he will not be retained. Okay great. Can we move on now?

Agree with you. There was no reason to assume our D would not improve this year. Just looked like we were not as physical in the run at times and lots of busts. Don’t know if that’s players or scheme but I would assume the players were not as locked in at times.

No way are you saying Goodwin ran Venables scheme.
Idk where to find the stats but he blitzed way less, almost exclusively played off coverage even on short yardage downs, did not use his lbs as creatively, had some of the most bizarre alignments for what was gashing him(the ND game 3 years ago really highlighted this for me).
Goodwin himself said he was going to simplify the defense so it was more instinctive and they could play faster when he took the job. He in fact oversimplified it and had no clue how to handle unbalanced sets, motion, Qbs that could run, or how to stop simple concepts like pin and pull or duo. The lbs looked confused, the DL looked like they were engaging with blocks on purpose to keep lbs clean, that's 80s style football, Venables believes in penetration and disruption.
