Lots of handwringing this morning about Shedeur. Deion raging on social media

Yet not a single analyst has had the courage to state why he REALLY wasn't picked in the first round.
It's a shame because the answer to that is a lesson for young men who want to play in the NFL or be a part of anything bigger than themselves.

His stats were inflated because Colorado basically ran an air raid offense. I think the kid has talent but I'm not sold on him being a pro.

and are more than happy to see anything bad happen to him, even if it means his star QB son isn’t drafted as highly as some people thought.
These people have decided that Deion represents everything that is wrong with sports, most recently college football, and that his son is as well.
It’s a lot of negative energy these people waste on something that doesn’t impact them at all.

These teams don’t make emotional decisions.
Teams are passing because they’re concerned about Shedeur’s maturity and character.
That’s the so far unspoken truth by analysts who do this for a living.

That is largely a hindsight POV being produced today.
ESPN had a 97% chance of him going in the 1st round.
—Edited—- In my view, the “real” reason is that there are perceived problems with his maturity and character, not his talent.

Mostly what i heard was early 2nd round grade, but there was at least one guy that really liked him and had him mid-1st.
I just don't think it's necessary to blame his fall on non-football issues because it's perfectly reasonable that he would fall to the 2nd round just purely based on football evaluations.

Unless Aaron Rodgers has abruptly ended his mushroom retreat and made a backroom deal, the Steelers desperately need a QB. They also traded their 2nd round pick for Metcalf.
All this yet they passed on this “opportunity.” Even if you’re right about the evaluation, which you’re not, there is no good Football reason for him not being selected.

ESPN, NFL.com, Athlon Sports, SI and most others all had him going in the first round. The fact he didn’t is today’s biggest story from round-1.
The NYT has been pushing a story this morning that he should have been second round all along.

The real reason?

He's more arrogant, brash, and self-entitled than he is talented.
Watch his play in the bowl game against BYU and tell me that's a first round QB. He looked lost and unprepared out there. Deer in headlights at times... And that was against BYU.
Plus, he was throwing all season to Travis Hunter. Look at his reels, and you'll start to notice how many times Travis's pure athleticism bailed out a poor throw from Shadeur.
And the final straw, many coaches and GMs who interviewed him prior to the draft spoke afterward about how it was one of the most unprofessional interviews they've ever conducted. Who wants to put up with all that when the talent isn't there?

that have absolutely nothing to do with his personality. I don't think he was a 1st round talent. Pure and simple. This other stuff about him is pretty much entirely rumor and conjecture and just conveniently fits a narrative that many people WANT to be true.

The Browns have the first pick of the second round and they definitely need a QB. (Sorry Deshaun, you’re still going to get paid handsomely).
Cleveland seems like it would be pretty much be the worst case scenario for someone like Sanders - small market, blue collar, perennial loser, meddlesome owner, front office with history of horrible decision-making.
He would need to be everything he believes himself to be and more to win there, kind of like Mahomes did in KC but without the benefit of Andy Reid.

If he was good enough he would have been drafted first round. That's why he wasn't. He has an average arms and gets rid of the ball slowly. He wasn't good enough for his interviewing ability either. That said, if he was a freak he would have been drafted 1st round or even first, even with his attitide.

I believe picks 1-20 had other real needs and/or plausible deniability for not picking him. When it came to the Pittsburgh Steelers, they passed on fulfilling their greatest position player need.
I think the Steeler organization viewed Shedeur in the wake of;
George Pickens; a guy who has every tool to be a WR1 who’s now likely to be traded out of the organization because of his behavior not his play.
Antonio Brown; a guy who thought he was so much bigger than the team he could come and go as he pleased ultimately going supernova. Amazing skills, egomaniac that ultimately turned just plain maniac.
LeVeon Bell, a guy who every RB wanted to emulate. Over the top ego, holds out, late to practices, wants to smoke pot not play football. Never came back from that after Pittsburgh.
I could go on…
For those of you who think talent is the only metric owners view when evaluating a player,
You may be Browns fans.

Very astute point. It's always been crazy to me that the Steelers as an ownership group and Tomlin don't *appear* to be willing to tolerate that type of behavior, but they've also been part of some of these giant fusses as you mentioned.
And then...to flip the point perhaps...there is Rodgers.

Mel Kiper is the Jim Cramer of the NFL Draft. Bunch of hot air and doesn't seem to really have any true analytical skills (just regurgitation from 'sources' that are puppeting him).
Plus that stupid broccoli-top haircut.

The sport media is still trying to process(aka: summon the courage) to articulate why Shedeur hasn’t been selected after two more rounds.
Booger got close by saying it was for “non-football reasons.”

If you watched Colorado’s Bowl game you would have seen Travis Hunter seemingly ticked off all game. He was ticked off at his QB for poor decisions and poor play. Then it comes out Shedeur and a few teammates were out the night before at the strip club partying . This is all character issues and less game than people realize.
