What's the likelihood we get Trevor Lawrence?

Jun 14, 2016, 10:08 PM

Supposed to announce this summer. I think he's coming to camp this week.

I doubt we get him I remember him saying something about not liking the competition we'll have at qb

Brad Brownell: more losses than any other coach in school history.

UT and UGA have similar situations

Jun 14, 2016, 10:59 PM

UT has Guarantano (2016 - #1 Dual QB), Juan Jennings (2015 - #6 Dual QB) and Quinten Dormady (2015 - #11 Pro QB) then UGA has Eason (2016 - #5 Nationally and #2 Pro QB) and Jake Fromm (2017 - #3 Pro QB). There's gonna be competition at all three of us, might as well trust his skill and go where he wants to go rather than a depth chart situation.

It's either the Puppies or Tigers . Tennessee has been thrown to the side like a red headed step child and are no longer in it . Ps- I hate the vols. Idk why, but I do . That is all.

We led for him a few months ago but then we picked up Brice and Johnson and we lead for Joyner so I believe Lawrence may be looking more into places like Tennessee and the Dawgs.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

he really likes Clemson, but still not likely

Jun 14, 2016, 10:51 PM

Not with Johnson there

I think he ends up at Florida or Tennessee

As of Sunday per Rivals Dan McDonald....I'm starting to really like Georgia's chances after talking to different people today at the Underclassmen Challenge. Wouldn't be surprised if it ends relatively soon either. Still, you never really know.

Lawrence

Jun 15, 2016, 5:34 AM

Has been quoted as saying that he really likes our coaching staff and our offense in particular .
The Dawgs are a bit of an unknown offensively for him as the coaching swap-out always leaves some uncertainty .
Clemson is a known , just played in the National Championship game and I wouldn't call anyone a favorite for him , but I never think we're out of it with CDS on the job .

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I hope he plays

Jun 15, 2016, 5:34 AM

well during his collegiate career, but not likely Tiger Town......we don't need him anyways

why say crap like that?

We don't know where he's going to commit. If you don't want the #1 overall prospect for the class of 2018 who appears to be just a great citizen you are an idiot. No point in making statements like that while we are still in the running.

I'd rather get Joyner. That kid is an absolute stud. After watching his film, other than DW4, I've never wanted a qb to come to clemson more than Joyner.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Plus, I couldn't stand to see

Jun 15, 2016, 8:26 AM

Joyner playing for the coots.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

i know i'll get bashed for this

Jun 15, 2016, 8:42 AM

but I just don't see how he fits our system. I believe I also read somewhere that he doesn't want to run a lot. He is a pure pocket passer and I just don't know if he would want to do what we do.

I would rather us pass on him and go after Dae. Joyner for 2018

He's a Peyton Manning clone. Future NFL starter. We take him if we can.

I think he's headed to UGA but I know he and his family love Dabo.

I think you're spot on

It's hard to remember sometimes that he's still just a rising junior cause his throwing ability is uncanny. Lawrence will probably do well anywhere he goes and if he stays healthy he could potentially be in the game for a long time. Scout.com just did a mock 2021 draft and it appears they agree- here's some of their picks

Just For Kicks: 2021 Mock Draft
by Allen Trieu
5/3/16

1. NEW YORK JETS - Trevor Lawrence, QB, Tennessee
"11 of the last 15 top overall selections in the draft have been quarterbacks. Of those 11, only three played out their eligibility, so odds are high this will be an underclassman quarterback and Lawrence is the best of the bunch right now. The Jets drafted Christian Hackenberg this year, a selection many consider a boom or bust, so projecting four years ahead, we should know by then if they'll need another quarterback or not."

2. DETROIT LIONS - Foster Sarell, OT, Stanford
3. CLEVELAND BROWNS - Austin Jackson, OT, USC
4. ST. LOUIS RAMS - Najee Harris, RB, Alabama
5. SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS - Stanford Samuels III, CB, Florida State

8. DENVER BRONCOS - Dylan McCaffrey, QB, Michigan
10. NEW YORK GIANTS - DeAngelo Gibbs, S, Tennessee
15. BALTIMORE RAVENS - Devon Hunter, S, Clemson
"The Ravens love defense and Hunter is a big, athletic kid who is listed as an athlete, but could be a whale of a safety with his skill set."
16. NEW ORLEANS SAINTS - Zamir White, RB, Georgia
20. PITTSBURGH STEELERS - Justin Mascoll, OLB/DE, Georgia
23. WASHINGTON REDSKINS - Darnay Holmes, CB, UCLA
27. CINCINNATI BENGALS - Tee Higgins, WR, Clemson
"Higgins hasn't chosen Clemson yet, but if he does, that's a place that seems to produce a lot of wide receivers. He's a tall, fast kid who be another A.J. Green for the Bengals. A.J. will have been in the league for ten years by this point."
31. INDIANAPOLIS COLTS - Tedarrell Slaton, OG, Miami (Fla.)
32. CAROLINA PANTHERS - Wyatt Davis, OG, Alabama

So no Zamir White huh ?

Jun 15, 2016, 11:32 AM

That stinks

2021 mock draft? That's about the silliest thing I have heard of!

i agree

Jun 15, 2016, 10:15 AM [ in reply to Re: i know i'll get bashed for this ]

that he could be a Peyton Clone, but would he fit in our offense? sounds like he is not much of a runner and that means we would have to change some of our running plays that use zone read. I'm not saying he couldn't run but he sounds like he doesn't want to. I agree we take him if he wants to come but I just worry about the change in the offense.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

His numbers are close to DWs

Jun 15, 2016, 12:09 PM

I'm not too concerned.

thanks

Jun 15, 2016, 8:34 PM

He will be a stud wherever he goes. He has the right demeanor to be a Clemson guy that's for sure.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: thanks

Jun 15, 2016, 10:13 PM

Agreed. He is the best and most gifted passer I have seen in years. If you CAN get him, you DO get him, and then let the coaches figure out how to make the offense work best with him. If I had Dan Marino back there who couldn't run a lick, I think in the end if my line & WR'S are good, it kinda evens out A Otay!
