It's the easiest fast food on my home from work and some nights like tonight, I just fell like some crappy messican food.
For the second time, I have pulled up to the drive thru and been asked if I'm picking up or placing an order. The first time I said placing and I was given a 46 minute wait time. The guy working was very upfront about him being the only person there and I politely said, thanks but no thanks.
Tonight I was given a 30 minute wait time. I politely declined again.
Working in a very customer forward world, I can't for the life of me figure how real live people in your store/drive thru don't get prioritized over delivery services. Wouldn't you just push that ticket to the front and serve the person their in the flesh and pause the delivery services? It's not like I'm going to turn to door dash and pay more for the exact same food delivered in 45 minutes vs getting it right there while I already made effort to give you business.
Am I missing something where they are actually so slammed on a Monday at 8:30 that they can just happily turn away business?

Even worse, you wondered why you had a bad experience.
I’m so sorry you don’t have a Rush’s nearby.
I would give a strong consideration to a DIY sandwich packed in a cooler all day rather than Taco Bell

Is this common in other bottom tier fast food?
Less than a year ago, this taco bell was better than CFA in terms of it's service (for reals)

Is an irregular stop for me. Im spitballing 6-10x per year with 4 bojangles steak biscuits, 2 rush’s cheeseburgers, y 1-2 wendy’s biggie bags and 1-2 CFA tortas pollo.

I understand all fast food is prioritizing the app over the drive thru but they can’t do this to a customer IRl. If I was a Taco Bell executive this would infuriate me.

Taco Bell is by no means messican food but continues to be a guilty pleasure for many misguided Americans, myself included.

Left and went to BK across the street.
One time, same McDonald's, guy said he was the only guy there and couldn't take my order. I told him to go home then as he's serving no real purpose. Just cut off the lights, lock up, and go home. He laughed.
Labor shortage is real. You can argue the cause but it's real.

They want you to use the app, and use the drive through. Don't come inside to order. Don't take up a human's time.
For any chain restaurant now, I am using the app nearly 100% of the time.
You must assimilate. Resistance is futile.

The old business model is just not sustainable. I imagine it will not be too much further into the future that the large chains will be totally app.
