I really hope this means we're getting Isaiah Simmons, because that kid looks like he could come in and start. Great size, speed, and excellent hands. Who knows, but hope Jeffrie has a plan and something works out for him.

It did really hurt our depth this year, and led to some of the problems we had later in the season when the starters were really getting tired.
But next year, with both upperclassman DEs leaving and nobody with much talent and experience backing up Boulware and Goodson this year, not having those guys really hurts.

There was a time, not all that long ago, where some defections were very concerning. We now are so deep with quality talent that it is not an issue. My guess is he knows he won't start, and that's okay. Most of the team doesn't start, and he may even have seen someone else who will move him farther down the roster. I wish him the best, but I'm not worried in the least. I was worried when Battle announced, and when Reeder took his sabatical, but I just reflect on how that worked out. We now have great depth. I'm no longer worried about a kid leaving.

Well, if there's a team in the country that has the potential to do so, I like our chances. We will see our struggles on the defensive side of the ball, but BV and company will keep us from looking like a Big12 team.

Usually, when guys leave early like this, they see the handwriting on the wall that playing time is questionable, and opportunities to become a starter are non-existant. I hope he finds what he is looking for. We have lots of talent, and we have lots of quality prospects who are very good. Though I hate to see anybody leave the program before graduating and/or being drafted, I'm not worried at all about our success in the future. I believe we will be just fine for a long time.

2) Nobody utilizes big safeties like BV, and has a track record to prove it (TJ Green, Kearse).

PURELY my opinion and I have no insight whatsoever, but I'd imagine the players have post-season meetings with the coaches where they review the season, share player goals vs coaches plan for him moving forward. And if those stars don't align, a player may feel he can get a better shot at meeting his goals elsewhere. It's nothing against the player or the program, but both players and coaches have the right to choose what's best for them. Some just go about it differently than others. For example Chad Kelly went about it absolute wrong way, but he has found success at Ole Miss. If he were still at Clemson he'd still be holding the clipboard.

Gibson was going to have a hard time seeing the field exclusively, if at all. Best of luck to the kid, but we have absolute ballers in the two deep without counting any incoming recruits.

If you look at the depth charts all year you would see that Gibson was sharing the backup roll of Free Safety with Van Smith. This all changed in the National Championship game when the "or" and Gibson's name was removed from the chart. Makes one wonder what happened?

I understand the concern. The stables are not exactly full at db... Not even if we get Mullen and Hill and the kid from the Semper Fi game. Mullen isn't ready to play at this level yet. We have some talent without question, but just thinking of the number of busts from our db's that led to big plays makes me hesitant to proclaim that we have nothing to be concerned about. Experience means an awful lot. I hope you are right, but we will see some issues with pass coverage and assignment football from the defensive backfield. We'll also see some of that at LB and DE. You can't lose the type of talent we have lost over the past two seasons on the defensive side of the ball without it biting you in the rear. Thankfully we have the best D Coordinator in the business and quality defensive coaches all around to help us with the learning curve. Sorry if not every Tiger fan shares your unswerving optimism.

Nobody is mentioning Mark Fields. I know he was a true freshman last year and saw the field very little but with Coach Reed working with him he should be starting at one corner. Yes, we are still a little thin at safety but with Cordrea returning and the young talent already on campus, I feel pretty good about our corners

I agree with you about our corners. Tank is an All-ACC guy. Fields and Baker are solid and only gonna get better. Edmonds is a good player. Jabari is a solid player. Smith has flashed. There are some other young guys with plenty of talent and who knows if any freshman we get can contribute, but aside from Jadar and Tank, they are all really green. We will be very well coached and be talented, but it will hurt us. We quite possibly could have enough offense to answer the bell regardless.

Haye to see him go. He had the potential to see playing time. He had game experience and knew the playbook. Hard to get snaps with the depth in front of him, but could have stuck it out and probably developed into a good player. Wish you luck where ever you end up and get your degree. GO TIGERS!!!

Worry warts! Clemson will be fine by September. As I recall, the Tigers lost 3/4 of their defense from the 2014 team and came within 6 points of winning a Natty. Also, guys are leaving other programs too. Relax and enjoy the off-season.

We are loaded with CB's and DB's I hope we add a couple more this year but we have plenty of talent on our roster.
I wish Savion would rethink going to LSU. I hope Mr. Mullen chooses us too. We are loaded with talent on defense. Brent will have everybody ready to play their best on defense.

the pressure can either turn these kids into diamonds or dust. If their hearts aren't in it they get lost in the shuffle quickly. This kid for instance, my shot in the dark guess is he want's the football, meaning he wanted to play offense, return kicks or punts, and might have gotten a birdie in his ear telling him he should be playing offense and he never should have taken the advice to become a defensive player. Bottom line is his heart isn't in it and poof, he is dust. Gone.

situation where he may have been told of a silent commit (or commits) at his position that was going to push him even farther down the depth chart, and the transfer is purely playing time related. I wish him all the luck in the world either way. He will always remember being a Clemson Tiger.

he got some advice from someone "outside the program" to transfer and play WR at a JUCO, then have 2 years eligibility to transfer "somewhere" to play at WR.
Bad advice for sure. He would have had serious playing time next season at safety.
Oh well, frees up another scholly so I think we have a good chance to land some more help at safety.

If you want to see panic on this board wait a couple of years when we have a log jam behind the starting QB and one transfers. That's when it will be the "end of Clemson"
