Many have tried, but they were stronger programs in their former conferences (were better, played in more meaningful games, won National Championships, etc.):

// Their best years were in their old conference //

Big 10
-Nebraska formerly Big 12
-Maryland formerly ACC

ACC
-Miami formerly Big East
-VT formerly Big East
-Boston College formerly Big East
-Pittsburgh formerly Big East
-Syracuse formerly Big East

Big 12
-West Virginia formerly Big East

PAC 12
-Colorado formerly Big 12

SEC formerly Big 12
-Texas A&M

// Have had success upon switching conferences //

Big 12
-TCU formerly MWC

PAC 12
-Utah formerly MWC

SEC
-Missouri formerly Big 12

// Too early to tell //

Big 12
-Cincinnati formerly AAC
-UCF formerly AAC
-Houston formerly AAC

There is no more football in The Big East so I am not sure those teams perfectly apply to this current realignment question.

All of those programs are absolutely doing better than if they stayed in The Big East

Financial success - sure. On the field - no way, they were better in Big East***

Mizzou already had early success, winning a weak SEC Least the first two years

they were in it. Butt, then some of the "traditional" East powers rose back up, shoving Mizzou back into the pack. The SEC is doing away with divisions starting in 2024, so Missouri can probably kiss any hopes of advancing to future SEC Championship games goodbye.

Penn State has been good but not necessarily great since going from Independent to the B1G in the 90's. They've largely been second fiddle to big bros OSU and Michigan since.
