FSU Boycott of Orange Bowl
1

Has anyone heard anything reliable about FSU raising money to stage a boycott of the Orange Bowl? I work with a Nole fan and he said they were trying to raise $5 million for the school so they could boycott the Orange Bowl and not lose any revenue...
Personally I would prefer they play Georgia; I think the committee created that matchup to give FSU a chance to make a statement.

I'm sure the lawyers for whatever network is televising the game would be all over that. So you better raise more than $5M.

TRUST ME, it's ALWAYS ABOUT THE MONEY. EVERYTHING we do in life, is about MONEY. The Board of Regents could care less about some kind of meaningless message being sent. The Trustees and Board members only see it as, "How much revenue will be lost, due to sending a message that NO ONE will remember next season.

their offense can compete with top caliber teams without Travis?? That a boycott will prop up some idiotic, no evidence tinfoil hat accusation that ESPN controls the CFP and is somehow FSU refusing to play is going to hurt ESPN and the CFP by proxy??
This idea of a bowl boycott is about as silly, and quite frankly, childish of a thing as I've seen on TigerNet. It will prove nothing and believe me - if FSU wants to act like a child and boycotts this game then the ACC is going to do whatever it takes to meet their contractual obligations with their top paying bowl tie-in and fill that spot or someone else will.
If you want to talk about a real valid law suit based on evidence - just have FSU pull this stupid crybaby tantrum stunt and watch all the lawyers make a bunch of money and the ACC/FSU lose money...

'Net' of what the Orange Bowl would add to their coffers. Most bowls are money-losing events for the teams participating.
The playoffs should consume some of the bowls going forward...let the sponsorships $$ flow to the respective games. Heck, some bowl sponsors should join forces.
Flip side...and I don't that there's real value to it, but first round playoff losers could play in a bowl game a couple weeks later. If they made a playoff game, they're likely better than alternatives. Lastly, perhaps first round losers are paired against #'s 13 through 16. The retribution games!
There are marketing angles and potential for attractive match-ups...just have to avoid linear thinking.

To ensure maximum trouble for ESPN they should wait until the day before and cancel so there's no time to fill the spot. Otherwise USuC may get an Orange Bowl bid

Raise money, buy up the seats, then leave them empty
1
Dec 5, 2023, 8:37 AM

Still prepare the team, take the field, and win. You get the $, you make your statement on the field, and the empty seats make your statement off the field. Can’t really ask fans to pay for tickets and not go, hence raising money.
Only negatives I see are loss of perceived home field advantage with no fans in the seats, and supportive fans won’t get to see the team take out UGAY in person. Whether the Dawgs “want to be there” or not, this sets up as one of those “I was there when we did it” moments - maybe as memorable as a national championship, given the circumstances.
So scrap the whole thing…won’t work. Fans can’t help themselves (and neither could I). Boycott it is, I guess.

They are stupid if they think raising $5 million will put a dent in the harm they will cause themselves if they choose to boycot. #1 it’s not FSU’s money. It’s the ACC’s. FSU has a contract with the ACC that requires them to participate in ACC events. I could go on and on, but I think you get my drift. Bottom line, FSU will play in the orange bowl or they will face hundreds of millions of dollars (not exaggerating) of lawsuits from multiple sources.

I hope FSU can defeat UGA. That would make a huge statement. The committee was in an impossible situation. IMO they should have left Michigan out. How do they know the outcome of games without the other teams signs? Just food for thought.

Fla. St. going to the Orange Bowl will not be a good outcome for them. Their offense does not exist and they may not score a point with their present QB situation. It would send a message to the biased selection committee.

If Georgia goes out and spanks FSU with their 3rd string QB; those who believe the undefeated conference champion who was left out of the playoffs were justifiably "left out"!
Personally, I think they matched them up with Georgia to "ensure that would be the outcome"! Or I should say; "greatly enhance their chances of that being the outcome(a Georgia win).
Not saying who's right or not - just that - "it's how I read it"!
When you want to skew and manipulate perception and are in position to stack the deck - think you won't?

I would have rather see Georgia VS Ohio St. Anyone that can put their emotions in check knows that the Bulldogs are gonna pin down every Seminole on the field and hump the crap out of them. At least Georgia vs Ohio State would promise to be a good game. It is the emotion that makes people want to see FSU in the final four, but the truth is that is like qualifying to start 4th for the Boston Marathon and then losing your foot a week before the race and still claiming to be worthy of the seed.

I don’t advocate a boycott but that committee doesn’t have the brain to think!!! ESPN is the ONLY one making any decisions and until they are put in check with their sec bias nothing will ever change. The best thing that can happen is for Michigan to curb stomp bammer and embarrass their ##### esecpn.

The best thing that can happen is both TX and AL winning their semis and FSU beating UGA
Then you end up with FSU 14-0 while the CFP winner is 14-1.

They need to carry a massive chip on their shoulder and wear UGA out.

TRUST ME!!!!! There's NO WAY that FSU doesn't play in the Orange Bowl. The players WANT TO PLAY, the coaches want to play, and The Board of Regents wants this game to be played. Entirely to much revenue stands to be lost, due to some hurt feelings. THIS GAME WILL BE PLAYED!!!! I would love nothing more than FSU go out there and dismantle Georgia, exactly the same way they did Louisville. GO TIGERS!!!!

No Win Situation
Dec 5, 2023, 9:53 AM

Sad to say it but this game won't matter.
FSU wins - Whoops, our bad...maybe we should have let them in the CFP. Also, UGA didn't wanna be there and all their good players opted out so of course FSU won.
FSU loses - Oh, well, see they lost so it justifies our decision.
This isn't the old days when winning your bowl game could be a statement - thank the Opt-outs and the CFP.
Really, more folks should be angry about this. I know they are our rival but those dudes put in the time like our players and it sucks that a group of people decided despite FSU going undefeated in a P5 conference and beating 2 SEC teams that...it just wasn't enough because your star player had a season-ending injury.
Sorry, that's not right. It doesn't matter if FSU was going to be big underdogs - playing games should matter and the CFP committee basically said...only when it's convenient for us does playing games matter.

FSU finished #55 strength of schedule Texas #2 Bama #6 Wash #8 Mich #51
Big 10 has same problem ACC has. Way too top heavy. 5 isn’t divisible by 4. Correct me if I’m mistaken, but I don’t think there is a rule that undefeated P5 winners are automatically in. This was bound to happen sooner or later with 5 power conferences in a 4 team format. They should have gone to 8 imo.

Correct there is no rule that undefeated P5 winners are automatically in.
And if you look at the selection committee principles, as published in 2012, you will see the fifth principle states that they should take to consideration players or coaches that have contributed to the season, but are not available for the playoff.
I hope FSU keeps crying. They are looking really ridiculous.

It does matter that FSU was going to be big underdogs. The college football play-off series is not and should not be an everyone-gets-a-trophy sport where they include teams to make them feel good about themselves. The job of the CFP committee with their decision Sunday was which of the teams had the most realistic chances of winning 2 games against the other 3 teams they chose. Being undefeated or being a conference champion is only a part of that equation. The Liberty Flames went undefeated, won their conference championship, and only managed to get ranked at #23 behind 4 four-loss teams. Just saying CUSA sucks kinda feeds the other end of that argument that we love to dump on which is the one that says the SEC generally has tougher teams than all the others and is more deserving. Should we have it both ways? Stiff arm the CUSA champ completely and be riled up about the ACC getting left out?
Maybe we would see conferences start to balance out if the expanded play-offs had to include all of the conference champions that are in conferences that are part of the CFP. This would mean adding the MAC, MW, Sunbelt and AAC. It would mean some huge blowouts, but it would not be long until a few big better schools saw those conferences as a path to the CFP and things would start to balance out. Its way out of the box, but softer mush-brain things have happened ...

Hilarious waste of money, I think maybe most I’ve ever seen in college sports. I hope they do it. Would make them look absolutely ridiculous.
In unrelated news, my high school freshman daughter didn’t make the volleyball team, so I’m going to sue the coach, the county, the school, and the volleyball manufacturer. And then I’m gonna boycott all volleyball tournaments.

I personably think they should raise money and purchase every home surrounding Boo Carrigans home. They could decorate them all with FSU logo. Rent them out as air B&B to opposing fans of Nancy Tate. Lots of ways to irritate that Nancy Tate AD that ran this committee.
