Interesting academic spin to something thats hardly academic
Feb 17, 2015, 9:06 PM
|
|
About what I would expect from The Atlantic. Here...I'll make it a lot shorter and simpler. They want death to all Christians and non-muslims. Period. That's about it.
By the way....I would not want to live on Sicily right about now. They are coming for Italy....Rome is a sacred target for them. Of course Obama gave them Iraq and now Libya. I can't understand for the life of me why Bush and Obama seem to think you can bring democracy to this region. You can't. Too many people underestimate the effect Christianity has on the existance of our nation and form of government. They are gaining power in the EXACT places where we kicked our "ruthless" dictators. There will come a day when a ruthless dictator would be preferable to what these nuts will unleash.
It sure as #### won't be democracy. It takes Christian (or similar) values for a society to tolerate democracy as we have come to understand it and take for granted.

Hey, I'm all for keeping things simple, but I think you are making it TOO simplistic. It's really not a war of Christian vs Muslim, although many want it to be so VERY badly. In fact, I think if you read the article it explains that they are much more brutal to other Muslims than they are to Christians. In other words, I think we would be enemies with ISIS regardless of our faith.

believe the way they do the same. The only way to make them happy is to give them lots of money or convert.

Wait until they expand. They are squiring territory right now and control, and that means they have to kill Muslims. But their ultimate goal is the west and Israel. Make no mistake about that.

21 Christians beheaded. No spin needed. No liberalism needed.
Compassion needed and a heart to destroy these ########.

I believe it is because Italy was a part of the old caliphate at one time. At least I think. Plus holding the territory the Catholic Church calls home is likely a wet dream of theirs. Much like the desecration of the former Jewish temple they have going on under the Dome of the Rock.

Realistically, there's no way ISIS could hold Rome or The Vatican for that matter. Perhaps an attack but that's about it. Personally I think their stated goal of attacking Rome may be more symbolic and a way to get Muslims in Libya to join them. These guys aren't stupid and I think a lot of their actions and words are an effort to build a coalition of Muslims all over the region by appealing to their hatred of certain groups. I'm still on the 'no ground troops' side since I think that is exactly what ISIS is trying to provoke us to do. To defeat ISIS is going to take patience more than brute force.

Its even more simple: East vs. West
Feb 18, 2015, 5:54 PM

The East has always been ruled by despots with a population that cowed to this form of government. The East never progressed in representative government. From Persia to the rise of Islam to the Ottoman Empire. The West has always strove towards a more representative government & prized personal freedom. From the Senate in Rome to the Magna Carta to the French & American revolutions.
This is a very general overview & the West did produce Divine Right, Napoleon & Hitler but all were moving towards more democratic representation or short lived strong men who were replaced by democracies. Look at the forms of government produced by revolutions in the East (Russian, Chinese & Iranian).

Well, creating a power vacuum in Iraq certainly hasn't helped matters...unintended consequence I'm sure.
