What is in the portal?

Has anyone found out what is actually inside this portal? How is a player automatically better when he comes out the other side of it?
Got to be some magic inside there.
This would be a story for one of these “journalists” to write that would actually be interesting for once.

And perhaps a little scrutiny on how they all magically seem to stay academically eligible.

Well I was told by some genius yesterday that the players don’t need to graduate anyway, because they have the freedom to not graduate.

Nobody now because the window does not open until January which makes roster control so hard. Every school has to deal with with replacing players that have run out of eligibility, declare for the NFL draft and enter the Portal. High school players will sign in December but coaches will know nothing about numbers until the Portal and NFL draft windows close. What everyone has to understand is there will be players entering the Portal for several weeks in January so you may think you have the numbers right on the 10th and then 3 more players leave on the 11th. Every school looks at the Portal every day and the small number of starter quality guys available can go anywhere that needs them so the competition is fierce. It is easy to get a player from the Portal but very, very hard to get a good player from the Portal.

That’s a good question !! As far as I can tell the portal is full of Players who did not have starting positions where they were. They started but they are mad at the coaches or disgruntled in someway or They had a good game and are looking for more money!!!!!
Yet it is the one and only answer for every team who did not win The National Championship… well and of course fire every coach..

GOOD players want to get PAID. Don’t hate the players ... hate the game it has become. CFB is in disarray. Dabo’s Culture is not going to work long term. Most Clemson Fans are proud of what Dabo stands for and how he goes about developing their hearts and minds along with their athletic talent. Losing VB was the turning point for this program along with NIL era.

Yeah and where is Jeremiah Alexander and Tristan Smith? Why aren't they starting? You went and got them paid them, but don't play them.

Its not whose in there its who is gonna go in there for a few hours just for show. Programs are actively looking and getting word through agents(tampering as it used to be called before it was accepted) about who they are interested in and those guys who strike deals will be in the portal but not actually “looking for a team.” Its the way it goes I guess.

what's magical about High School??

there's "risk" in everything when acquiring talent.
Having your foundation rooted in recruiting High School players and supplementing those High School "busts" with the portal to infuse talent into your program that you didn't get from HS is the way to go.
hypothetically you have a graduating sr or drafted jr on the Oline leave..............would you rather backfill him w/ a highly rated HS kid that played against a bunch of 220 lb Dlineman OR get a So/jr ALL CONFERENCE MAC player from Toledo that developed and warrants a P4 opportunity w/ 2+ years of FBS COLLEGE FOOTBALL and COLLEGE FOOTBALL regimen and life????........I'd argue that it's actually easier to recruit the portal b/c some "college adaptability" questions have been answered already.
Maybe some do look for more money??? Maybe some want a different atmosphere/chance/etc...
Contrary to what many on here believe, the portal is not only full of "team cancers"........and one could argue Clemson's incestuous model of "home grown" during this era has created more cancerous traits throughout the team anyway.
It's also interesting that the brightest spots on the team this year have been when the very few portal players Dabo got actually see the field.

I've wondered if the new college has higher grading standards for newcomers...

Does that count for transfers with lower, or even bad grades? Or, does the school part not even really matter at these bigger schools. If a kid knows he's good, and can sell himself to trend upward... hey, go get your money I guess. They may know they're leaving in 3 years and not care about a degree nowadays?

Of which less than 20% will be picked up by power 4 teams.
Probably not all it's cracked up to be at least according to the narrative that's out there.

Kaggle has a dataset but does not offer post-portal performance statistics, which is what you (and everyone else) wants to know.
But because there is no data (if there is, please share it) to show whether going big in the portal works or does not work as a general rule, or does nothing at all, then the dumpers can play that old, tired "can't prove the portal doesn't work, so you should use it" game.
