So, she went to France to get some frog embryo samples. She didn't declare those samples when coming back into the US. The usual "penalty" is to forfeit the item you don't declare and pay a $500 fine. Instead, they revoked her VISA, and have put her in jail in Louisiana. She was living in the US on a J-1 Scholar Visa. And now she's essentially in limbo.

Under the Immigration and Nationality Act Section 212, several reasons can be given for denying entry into the U.S., including health-related issues, a criminal record, and terrorism. Romanovsky said that while CBP can cancel visas, they need a reason to merit it, and in Petrova's case, they did not.

I sure hope this is resolved quickly, and that she can stay in the US. This is ridiculous, and we're going to see more and more of this, where legal residents and visa holders are thrown into an ICE gulag for...essentially nothing.

It could be that she was detained and sent to bum #### Louisiana only because of some frog parts, or perhaps there's more to this story than whatever her people are claiming. Maybe not, but we keep seeing threads about poor foreigners being deported due to free speech issues only to then see them rioting and attacking people. All under the guise of being here as a humble knowledge seeking college student. So let's just wait and see how this one plays out before claiming we really know what the full story may be.

She's been law-abiding and doing Medical research.

She didn't declare frog embryo samples. That should've been handled with a $500 fine, not imprisonment in Louisiana.
