Even when those who criticized Dabo's previous decisions—like avoiding the portal, making questionable hires, neglecting player development, and managing the roster poorly—applauded the recent changes, the response is baffling.
Instead of acknowledging, "You guys had valid points, and Dabo has made great adjustments based on those critiques," some posters insist, "Dabo is infallible! How dare anyone question him? These changes just prove his brilliance!"
It's a frustrating example of cognitive dissonance at its finest. Rather than engaging with the reality of constructive criticism leading to improvement, they double down on blind hero worship.

But he didn’t paraphrase, he offered a direct quote, which apparently was made up. And making up things undermines an entire argument, especially when there is no need to do it. I believe some people on here think they know more about running a football program than Dabo does and that's where the problem is. People acting like Dabo doesn't know what he is doing. I do believe he has made some moves based on his heart and not his head on occasion but that is not always a bad thing. Most thought he was a bad hire at the time and he was hired from within. Now whenever he promotes from within its always a horrible move. We'll guess what. That is how he became head coach.

Here is what we know as fact. Dabo brought us to an elite level in the last 10 years. We were a top 3 program in both results and talent. We know the Covid years were not kind to our program as it is difficult to sell relationships and culture over a zoom call. There was nothing Dabo could do about this issue so fans accepted the result. Then NIL and the portal happened. Every single coach in the P4 adapted to the new normal except Dabo (throw out the service academies as they operate on a different structure). It was a bold move on Dabo's part which failed. He has acknowledged the failure be adapting to both but not before we fell from a top three to a top 20 team both in results and talent. Dabo also went All In on internal hires which we know was a failure because he has replaced three of the choices with elite outside the program coaches.
The thing is, we can still like and respect Dabo appreciating what he has done for the program while admitting he made some high-risk choices which were a mistake.

Yup even he himself admits he isn't perfect. It's just nobody knows if what he does is going to work or not till it happens. It's like play calling. If we call a reverse pass and it scores it's a great call, if we fumble the ball it's why did u go away from what was working and a horrible call. He is in charge of our program and we shouldn't be constantly questioning his decisions.

I'm proud that he is man enough to admit that he made some mistake hires, but he had to give them a chance to prove him wrong before he fires them. It was from what we saw this season with Goodwin that made us feel like he was dragging the situation and trying to make it fit and we could barely wait for the end of the season...

He had one season at OC in which we started 8-0, ranked in the initial CFP Top 4, won the ACC and played in the Orange Bowl. We regressed on O in Riley's first season after.
In the past Dabo would visit other programs and look to instill some tweaks and attributes to our playcalling and strategies. At that point though it was simply time for an all around overhaul and new direction. I don't have an issue with Dabo making the change like he did but do feel like Streeter gets a very unfair and uninformed rap around here by too many.

That statement isn’t wrong. It’s just another way of acknowledging that there are issues and believing that Dabo will do what’s best for the team. Which is what y’all seem to think he is doing right now. When you said you had concerns that Dabo was too complacent, arrogant or stubborn to ever adapt you were wrong. We all expressed concerns. It’s just that some of us didn’t make it sound like we knew what needed to be done better than Dabo did.

I’ve been critical of several things about decisions made in the past and I won’t hide from that. I just finished watching the press conference with Coach Allen and Dabo and while Dabo didn’t specifically call out individual decisions, I felt he was pretty open about not everything he did working and needing to fix those things.
I see the old Humble Dabo starting to re-emerge and it is good to see. I don’t need a mea culpa about the past as long as things change for the better going forward and I feel pretty good about that being the path we are on.

Everyone who has ever been in leadership has made mistakes. Dabo admitted that hiring Wes was a mistake. A great leader acknowledges his mistakes and makes corrections.
The greatness of Dabo that you fail to see is he still had good teams the last few years.
The last 15 years has been one the greatest runs in the history of CFB. Look at the teams over the last 20 years who were great that have hit bottom. USC, Auburn, Nebraska, Florida just to name a few. Dabo is still winning 10 games a year.
He will get the Tigers back in the top 5 very soon. Appreciate what Dabo has done and is doing for Clemson. He knows what is going on. Give him the benefit of the doubt when things seem to be heading in the wrong direction.

It's when some posters act like they have this great insight as to what is ailing the football team (when EVERYONE can see the obvious problems) and continue to post the same thing repeatedly that people get a bit put off.

I hear what you are saying Pacific, but regardless of what you, me, or anybody else thinks about the past 3 years of how our FB program has gone, for the good or the bad, Dabo is the only one that can take full responsibility for that bc he is the only one that made the decisions that set the FB program back for the past several years, just as he is the only one that made the decisions to correct the problems that he alone made and caused. Personally, I think that it's admiral of him to admit that he made those mistakes, and he has been attempting to correct those mistakes. I don't think that he would have fired Streeter and Wes and brought in Garret Riley and Tom Allen if he didn't believe he made those mistakes with both those two hires. To me that says an awful lot about Dabo's character when he knows that he made a mistake and does something about correcting them, and this is just one of the things that Tiger nation loves so much about Dabo Swinney, he isn't afraid of making a mistake, and he isn't afraid of correcting his mistakes!!! IMO, our FB program is in really good hands with Dabo as our Head Coach!!!

Well said. I doubt Dabo makes any hire knowing that it won’t work, but we all make mistakes. It takes a humble and smart man to admit those mistakes and correct them.

Wes and Brandon were place holders who did us a favor by filling in the huge gaps BV, TE and JS left.
Dabo's top priority is the players. He is the one of the few coaches I would trust to continue my son's raising. He maintains a high moral, legal and ethical standard.
If that isn't enough for you then that's why we see differently. You don't care about anything but winning. Sometimes it's impossible to hold to that type standard and without sacrifice.
You'd make that sacrifice for your children but others can kiss your asz if they hold that standard for theirs. Not everyone fits at Clemson and most of the portal players just aren't fits in moral, legal and ethical standards. You can remove most of them from Dabo's list because they already know where they are going when the enter the portal.
Dabo won't tolerate rules breakers. That's why 10 people make themselves available to replace Wes and Dabo turned them all away and chose Tom.

I feel you. I’m with you. However, the ability to start to change to catch up to times does give everyone hope. The nepotism hires still happened. The portal use is still leaving us at a net loss. But, it’s a good start. He can’t jump all in without sacrificing all his values. I understand why he held to his principles. But we paid a price for it. Only time will tell if this closed the gap that was widening.
I haven’t ever said he was Infallible. In fact, you and I usually agree on the issues. We catch crap for it at times. Being a realist can cause that to happen. It’s doesn’t make us less a fan that the pumpers.
