I know it sounds weird, but you should really start wearing

Sep 6, 2017, 10:37 AM

high heeled shoes so your ankles are way above the hordes of venomous vipers that will be driven into suburban areas by the hurricane. I would suggest you go out at lunch and get a pair and start wearing them TODAY so you can get used to them. Make sure they're closed-toe though.

Here's my plan, only slightly complicated by a scheduled

Sep 6, 2017, 10:39 AM

c-section on Tuesday?

Have a 3,100 watt inverter generator with 4 LP gas tanks and 20 gallons of gas (should last 6+ days then will need to get gas or refill LP tanks). Will power 1 refrigerator, 1 freezer, 1 6K BTU window unit for AC (around 1600 watts right there). One 70-inch LCD HDTV (110 watts), One router (300 watts), and a network drive (18 watts). Kids cool, entertained, and food (and BEER) stays cold. Bingo. Have grill for cooking just about anything. Phones stay charged too.

Bottled water x 200, beer, etc. Toss in a bath tub or three full of water for good measure (if on the coast) Could store an additional 200+ gallons of fresh water that way if needed.

All you need. If shove comes to thrust, I have an ample assortment of deer rifles and ammo, plenty of hunting knives, sharpening stones, hack saws, etc. Even have a tent and sleeping bag and 2 chords of fire wood at my disposal. Creek behind my house with a hand-held water purifier. Also an AR-15 and an AK-47 with ample ammo (1k rounds each) for the zombie apocalypse or looters/anarchy. Wife would not survive if the toilets stopped flushing. Luckily I have a creek and a 5-gallon bucket, so could flush toilets if needed.

I got this covered ;) I could "survive" indefinitely. Could survive by first world standards at least 10-14 days probably.

I'm only cooling one room. Possibly two because we have

Sep 6, 2017, 11:23 AM

another window AC unit handy. I'm more worried about my direct neighbors. Highly doubt any of them have ever pooped in the woods. And evidently none know how to shut off a water valve. Heck, I'm a hero to the folks across the street when I doubled the water pressure at their kitchen sink by removing the water limiter on their faucet.

Baby 3 is going to be the biggest concern. In particular washing bottles and clothes. Can run the washing machine fine on the generator. Dryer, notsomuch. Clothes line I guess.

But this will miss us entirely. That's still my hope.

20 gal gas and 4 lp tanks should last a lot longer than 6 da

Sep 6, 2017, 11:33 AM [ in reply to Here's my plan, only slightly complicated by a scheduled ]

When we were without power, I ran closed freezer and fridge for 1 hour out of 4.

Unless its 100 degrees there would be no AC unless you have a sickly elderly loved one.

IF its THAT bad, save your gas because you wont know how long you need it.

As for us. I have the camper full of drinking water (45 gal) and 4 lp tanks to run the fridge.

The generator is gassed up with about 10 gal extra. I only use it to run the freezer and fridge and occassionally a floor fan to move air through the house.

The house has natural gas so stove is not an issue.
