Adam Randall

If and I know its a big if, but if Adam can get healthy and stay healthy this season. What are your expectations for him with Cade as the full time QB and Riley's new system?

I think the potential is there for him to have a break out year. What say you?

Don’t know. He sounds like a talent at practice. I know he was recovering from the knee surgery, but we didn’t even see any flashes of that practice talent last season. Maybe with DJ it was a bad combination. Thus, I hope to see the talent emerge with the new offense and Cade throwing a more catchable pass. We won’t know until we start hearing things during August camp.

Collins, and pretty much any WR that can get and stay healthy. I think Streeter was the root of our problems on offense last year, more so than DJ, and I think that will be apparent at some point this year. We'll see.

Not using the middle of the field isn't why DJ

dragged our offense down.

And we had more TE catches under Streeter than at any point since Jordan Leggett. We utilized the TE a great deal.

Regardless, wins and losses aren't predicated on throwing in a particular area or specific position. The idea is to make it work as a whole and score points by utilizing your best players at what they do best. No specific recipe for that.

What could Streeter have done to help DJ

see open receivers and then actually get the ball to then?

Did you not notice the IMMEDIATE WR production and efficiency increase when we changed QBs?

The root cause of our offensive issues was poor play at the most important position on the field. No question about it.

No question the offense will be better, but that starts at QB. Garrett Riley has the benefit of talented WRs, but more importantly he has a QB to run the system efficiently.

Garrett Riley couldn't have done anymore with DJ than Streeter did. There were no magic schemes or playcalls to help DJ, other than the watered-down version of runs and short passes we were forced to utilize, because of the limitations at QB.

Don't mistake a better offense with simply being a new playcaller. Yes, the system is more innovative and will likely thrive with our talent, but it all starts at QB.

There's a reason Streeter was FIRED, and it wasn't because

DJ was a bad QB. DJ was part of the problem, for sure, and I agree he should have been replaced with Cade much earlier, but the scheme and playcalling was a huge part of the problem as well. Look for receivers, and everybody for that matter, to be put in better position to make plays this year as well as sustain drives and be more efficient all the way around.

Also, look for DJ to have a good year at Oregon State.

Not sure what we do this year will prove anything about last year, especially Streeter

Do you not think a coaching change can make a difference,

1

or that we can tell if such a change is responsible for the difference?

Streeter was fired because Dabo felt he underperformed in his job of designing and leading the offense, and that there were better options out there (Riley).

I really hope Randall turns out to be everything the coaches keep saying he will be...

but every time I read their comments, and think of his injuries and production so far, for some reason Rendrick Taylor comes to mind.

Odd comparison...

He really needs to get back in football shape as much as getting healthy. He moved a lot like a smaller Jaylen Lay after he came back and struggled to fight for balls or even look competitive for anything thrown his way. He will be a force if both those things happen, just look at his high school tape.

Randall looked the part for a big time receiver, but last year he looked lost when it came to route running at times. Maybe that’s due to a delayed start with the injury or maybe that’s due to Streeter not including Randall’s skill set in the game plan.

We’ll have to see how Randall looks this year. I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up all ACC, but also it wouldn’t be surprising if he misses more time due to injuries.

Re: Adam Randall

Not a ton. The system alone will help make our receivers looks better but he’s not fast, and he doesn’t high point the 50/50 balls. He waits for the ball to come down to him instead. He’s no Mike or Tee that’s for sure.

The summer reporting last year said Randall was the star of camp (with Cade throwing to him.) Expect that to grow if Randall is healthy with a both a talented OC and starting QB.
