Specifically Senator John Sherman, a republican from Ohio, who authored the anti-trust laws that make it illegal for the schools that play college football to band together and restrict the compensation of the players whom we pay to watch play. Those crazy woke 19th century politicians are ruining everything once again.

Railroad moguls, Ma Bell, tech companies, Big Pharma, and now the NCAA.
All have lost landmark federal cases a out their horribly corrupt price fixing, collusion, and paying less than fair market value for materials and labor.
Lots of people are thankful to Sherman for that awesome piece of legislation.

That the point of the post. There’s a lot of butthurt on Tnet today blaming the woke socialists who broke their sport. The truth is the sport has always been in violation of the law; they were just able to get away with it for over a century.
Clemson started playing college football in 1896, the Sherman act became law in 1890.

John’s brother was a fellow named William Tecumseh Sherman. I’m hoping that John’s law does to Athens Georgia what his brother did to Atlanta. It’s hard to argue that anyone has benefited more from the Wild West current NIL/transfer portal than the butt sniffers; hopefully with some regulation we can get back to a more level playing field.

FSU seemed to benefit quite nicely from the transfer portal, until...well...you know.

Lawyers are responsible for a lot of our problems. As I have said before, most of our politicians are lawyers. That is why they have passed an enormous amount of legislation and laws that require a lawyer's signature which, of course, you must pay the lawyer. Looking out for their profession.

I blame greed.
Greed destroyed college football as we knew it. Greed can eventually destroy entire empires if it goes unchecked.
(Don't blame capitalism either. Marxist's in the Soviet Union collapsed the USSR due to their enormous greed. The ONLY rich people left when it imploded were the political elite. Over decades, they stole, and confiscated all the wealth from their citizens until they ran out of "other people's money to spend".)
Greed is bad. Gordon Gekko was wrong.

1. The universities who are the NCAA and who decided that money was more important than academic integrity.
2. Blame the boosters who were willing to do whatever it took to win at all costs. (Cheating and paying players goes back way before SMU and the Death Penalty.)
3. Blame the fans and alumni who pressured to universities to do whatever it takes to win.
I could go on and on. But, the "Win at all costs and to heck with academics" philosophy is why we are where we are today.

There was NO integrity in the NCAA sports model. It was always illegal. It just took more than a century for anyone to get smart enough to challenge it.
Integrity? Exploiting college athletes' labor and risk for profit, as the NCAA and the schools did is unrelated to integrity, of any kind.
It's ludicrous hypocrisy to use the word "integrity" in any sense in regards to the NCAA's arrogant, elitist exploitation.

The "Shermanator" is very anti-crypto along with Elizabeth Warren. But they are losing those battles badly in congressional votes ...
