Yeah he isnt a good public speaker and he comes across nervous. Even in this game he looked nervous and standing too close to Dabo. It was odd. He is in wayyy over his head at moment in my opinion.

Yes he did, and he stated they were playing the run, and Hartman was killing us with the his arm. At some point, a DC has to make adjustments to help out your young guys in the secondary. BV did it many times by keeping hard pressure on the QB with Blitz's coming from every angle. Wes maybe FB smart on paper, but he knows nothing about being a DC and making adjustments, and he has shown that through 4 games, and he better grow up quick bc NC State and their coach hates us, and they will take Goodwin's lack of experience and use it against him every play they have the ball!!!

He can't go play corner. We had young guys get beat. I see AJ get beat by Chase the same way against LSU. Did that make BV a bad coordinator??

Was AJ Terrell getting nailed with PI calls like ours were today?
And cmon….that was the greatest college offense in history that burned AJ. This was wake forest.

Really, you're equating AJ (who wasn't a superstar) getting burned by the best receiver in college football that year, with this?

It was similar yes. Our D has always had tons of PI calls on them as well. This isn't anything new. It was just the fact we are down on CBs and are starting young guys. Not saying it wasn't embarrassing just saying it's the same D that BV would have been calling most likely. We should have changed to more safety help imo but wake did start running on us. That was a great qb dropping dimes tho similar to what burrow did. Wake wasn't as good as LSU of course. Just don't think we should be so harsh on our coach when he is having to start our 2nd and 3rd string in the secondary against one of the best passing Os in the nation.

BV had a young secondary almost his entire time at Clemson, and he used blitz packages to help them out, and it worked more times than not, even when giving up chunk plays bc he knew his D would hold up in the red zone!!!!

Sam Hartman was killing the blitz. He was 6/8 for 5 TDs against the blitz it was the most TDs against a pure blitz since 2011. The answer wasn't we needed to blitz. The issue was 3 starters being at home in the secondary and Wake Forest being a veteran offense that executed. Our young secondary was out classed by the Wake Forest offense. We sorely missed Green and Mukuba. If they return next week you will see the difference. XT would have made a difference as well. Not time to panic, this team is showing signs of being very special. The offense is ramped up and the defense has a silver lining in getting healthy. This team can beat you in different ways. NC ST is a challenge but I believe we just played and beat the best team we gonna face on offense this year in the ACC, and we beat them with a hobbled defense. 4-0, driver's seat in the ACC, nations longest winning streak, offense showing great potential and a defense we know is good when healthy. Certainly not time to panic. Go Tigers!

Coach V is good. That is a given. His defense has absolutely been shredded at times with all the blitzing. We seem to have short memories. We gave up 628 yards to LSU. We thought it could never be that bad again. It was worse the next year. We gave up a whopping 639 yards against OSU. A mediocre OSU. Fast forward to last night. More blitzes and over pursuit. Absolutely shredded by a running QB at home against KSU. He will be fine at OSU and he's a great college coach. There is NOBODY in the NFL clamoring to get Coach V and his scheme at the next level. He would be giving up 50 points a game. Let's teach our DB's to turn their heads and give Wes until year end. The past always seems better than it was until you look at some of the record setting numbers that the Tigers gave up on D. Go Tigers

I don’t blame him. This is Dabo’s fault. He’s going to have to start working again, doing the hard job of hiring a staff that can handle the job. What we’re seeing now is a joke. Horrible play calling on BOTH sides of the ball. Particularly the last two possessions of the second half in the red zone. Whoever called the plays on those two series should be fired. They should be fired today.

About the only time I didn’t see him reading from a play sheet was in overtime.
So who needs to get fired? I have to think that Dabo is doing A LOT of the play calling.

Honestly I think he tried some some stuff but from what is he had the same issue our OC had last year … I mean with a qb like Hartman if you sit in zone and blitz two extra guys and nobody can get to him he’s gonna pick it apart … same with the runs our d line until that last Ot and stop in reg we’re nowhere to be found as far as pressure agaisnt an OL they should have dominated… so in a way he was handcuffed … give up the short passes and 8 yard runs bc the line isn’t getting enough pressure or blitz and hope your guys can make a one on one play which neither happened consistently today. They have to compliment each other … the d line with this much talent and this much experience has to help those dbs out and at least have one safety back would maybe help lol

Wes isn't a bad guy, and I don't think enough time has passed to say he's a bad Coordinator at this point, but he definitely needs to try something different. He's not reacting near quick enough. Maybe he needs to be up in the box so he has a better view and call the plays from there, let the assistants call it in on the field or something. The DB play today wasn't all his fault but not switching to a zone after they got repeatedly burnt was on him. Lets hope this lights a fire under him because if it doesn't this defense is in serious trouble, the schedule isn't getting easier from this point.

It's bad. I know all these posts will get TD'd and everyone will be called negative etc etc but Clemson is not a program that should be or accept ojt.
The DLine and front 7 were/are veterans and as talented experience as we've had. Thought the first 3 games we were just playing cautiously, but obviously we weren't. Wes is a good analytics of the game and perhaps a good LB coach but NOT a defensive coordinator at this time. Or the talent we have is all overhyped. We know we have talent. As you all said, maybe he's not reactive real time enough. Key word being real time.
WAKE didn't surprise us today. The Pitt game surprised CBV and he called a bad game. Plus questionable pi's in the Pitt game they weren't questionable today. Just a bad defensive plan.

In fact, if just out two NFL drafted DBs had returned, we be in great shape.

Certainly there seems to be a lack of development of the 2's and 3's on D. The portal may be partly to blame. He just got outcoached by more experienced guys at WF today. He will learn from it.

Uh, no. I will take Wes as is over Steele. And, contrary to all the posters I think they will improve the secondary play. With Coach Steele we got the same sorry quote after every game - "we all know the deal". That was after giving up a BCS record 70 points to WVU along with 589 yards. Yes, we hold the all time record for points given up in a bowl game. Thank you Coach Steele. Wes has has not and will not eclipse that record for complete futility.
