Boulware punt question?

Sep 3, 2013, 2:30 PM

Boulware's been getting a lot of flack for his play on the punt situation that most thought was on the verge of turning deadly. After watching the replay a few times I have a few observations I thought I'd throw out.

It appears from the front angle that Boulware may have been trying to block. The ball was heading into the 10-5 yard line when he made a turn towards the ball. The front angle doesn't appear to show him making a play for the ball which most thought he was. If he was blocking to help the ball get into the end zone for a touchback then I can understand his thinking. Also from that angle you can see him get pushed into the ball which as Herb-berger pointed out is a dead ball.

Thoughts or disagreements?

Yes. He was trying to throw himself in front of the dawgs

and get a touchback. Good thought, but it almost backfired.

Seems his thinking is what you were saying.

Although I think the consensus is it was good in thought, but to have something like that overturned via video is a hard call.

Well that answers my post, I retract my question lol***

It's an error

An error made for good reason, but an error that will be addressed by coaches no doubt.

I initially thought he was going to try and get the ball - but the replay showed I was wrong. I think he made a great play to prevent them from downing the ball. Pretty darn smart play IMO.

I only lost 2-3 years off my life when he did it though - but thankfully the replay showed how bad my eyes are. :)

When you weigh the risk vs reward, the risk was way too high.***

the play would have been reviewed and overturned if they

Sep 3, 2013, 2:41 PM

had scored. he was clearly blocked into the ball.

all in all it turned out good for us either way.

i would rather boulware get the f&%% out the way.

Assuming they would have overturned a UGA score is giving

Sep 3, 2013, 2:46 PM

the officials way too much credit. I appreciate the effort, but PETER, PETER, PETER!!!

Never trust the review officials.***

Normally, yes but I think that was the best officiated

Sep 3, 2013, 2:50 PM

game we've had in YEARS. I agreed with all of the reviews and most of the flags

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

While I understand what he was trying to do

Sep 3, 2013, 2:42 PM

I'd rather have the ball at the 1 than give them a free 7 points. Risk is too high.

Never, ever, ever put the ref in a position to save you

Sep 3, 2013, 3:12 PM

Obviously the ref didn't see it as being blocked into the ball since he didn't rule touchback. And we certainly don't want to have to rely on "indisputable video evidence."
