34 teams seems light. 48 to 64 teams seems like a sweet spot.

The “span” of college sports is part of the value of the product. Reducing the span too much puts the product in direct competition with the NFL, NBA etc. Millennials may not have the same preferences and allegiances of Boomers and Gen Xers _maybe less overall or maybe swing towards the pros.

just 34 teams in a closed top level

would not be very fun and I think would kill a lot of college football's appeal.

I think the timing is why they buckled to the NCAA alleged violations.

They simply had a bigger fish to fry. Getting out of the ACC is much more important to them than settling for a rap in the knuckles they will be past in a year or two.

Scary for us, not sure how it ends but don't like our position of being in the ACC.

Could you please post the link stating such a thing. I ask what value Clemson could offer the SEC when the SEC already has USUC covering the media rights in their behalf in SC. That means that the SEC don't need us, plus I don't think that Clemson meets the criteria that it takes for entering the BIG. So I'm asking what do Clemson have that the SEC or the Big would need for generating revenue?

A three time National champion is not likely to be left out...we beat the GOAT Bama so easily we barely broke a sweat! Easy to leave out natties from teams before modern playoffs...easy when some sportswriter voted his favorite team #1, CLEMSON did it with most voting against us...Ohio State still has to use butt salve because of the whooping Clemson handed them!

It's pretty screwed up that they didn't talk to anybody in the ACC about joining them with their venture of pulling away from the NCAA if that is what they're planning to do. I think that is something that everybody in college FB would like to see happen bc of the lack of leadership from the NCAA for at least a dozen years. How do they think that leaving the ACC dangling by a thread connected to the NCAA would be something good for college sports. To me it seems that the ACC could add some leverage to plan, but they don't see it that way, I guess....

Most will not agree but I firmly believe a semi-pro breakaway by the B1G and SEC will fail. They may think they will be the majority based on money and power. I believe they will see nothing but dirty pool from THE MAJORITY politically speaking. The left out majority will come at them hard. Ever heard of United we stand divided we fall? Many fans will side with the underdog majority. The “left behind” majority will have the full political majority behind them legislating favorably for them, not the P2, on issues like Title IX and do forth. This is going to get interesting.

Clemson is not getting left behind. The left chart explains exactly why. This move to a superconference football structure is all about the money the true football schools generate along with other schools with large alumni bases that bring viewers despite poor football history.

If you move Clemson over into the left chart and they play those schools Clemson’s tv viewership easily falls into the upper half of those set of schools.

So who legitimately can pull in 4 million viewers for a regular season game? Perhaps this chart shows how Clemson helps pull games with FSU, ND, and Auburn above the 3 million viewers threshold. Especially for FSU and Auburn while they have had less stellar seasons since 2016.
