What’s the difference in the NFL making rules and the NCAA making rules. The rules and structure should be consistent with every state. State laws should play no factor in competition that includes different states. If they want to play all their games in the state of TN then I would say their state laws would apply.

and players are employees of the teams with a union.
College football programs actively do not want to open the can of worms of making players employees. They want to pretend that college football is an amateur endeavor, while making millions upon millions of dollars.
We're in that weird quagmire where the programs and the sport as a whole would like to have control over the athletes (when they can sign, and how long they have to play, how they can make money from outside sources), but without giving them the protections afforded to contracted employees.

While I agree the NCAA has not handled the role of the student athlete effectively, this is specific to NIL. The NCAA simply said you cannot use NIL for pay for play. Tennessee blatantly disregarded that and is upset they are being investigated?

I suppose I probably was responding more from a "state of the sport" angle, rather than this particular case.
I still maintain that ultimately the NCAA and individual football programs are going to need to stop half measures and swallow the whole pill of making athletes paid employees. But in this case, with the current laws, Tennessee is simply grasping at straws.

NCAA really doesn't give a diddly Damme about student athletes...if they did they would require them to be students first...that thought has never crossed their mind...rules that allow athletes to play for several years without going to class or passing any academic course of study! Miami 90`s, UNC basketball team, LSU recently, Colorado on Dieons own admission! Any dentist could examine the NCAA and find nothing to extract!

Why do they have to be a part of a union in order for a governing body to set policy? I don't understand this concept. Why can the NCAA not set rules in order for teams to compete that must be followed. Here is where the NCAA failed. They never fought back. They could have simply used common sense to battle. They chose to just sit back and watch.
Without rules this sport is over. It is toast.

The NCAA is blatantly trying to enforce rules that don't exist, to go with their illegal suppression of athletes benefitting from their own NIL, for decades.
There are so many lawsuits being fired against the NCAA that they aren't going to have enough lawyers to defend them all.

Tennessee is worrying about the rights of so called student athletes but does not mind cheating to get them...no wonder the players have no moral fiber...the whole administration at UofT is corrupt! All they care about is winning not how the game is won!

The NCAA is going to lose any case in which it’s trying to limit or restrict an athlete from getting paid because of antitrust laws. Unless the NCAA (or whatever governing body replaces it) gets an antitrust exemption from congress, almost all rules that impact (restrict) an athlete’s ability to earn money will be struck down in court.

That's not the issue here. The NCAA has told member institutions that NIL is between players and 3rd parties, and that member institutions must abide by certain rules in their interaction in the NIL process. Basically, the schools have to recuse themselves from NIL deals between athletes and NIL "employers". A coach cannot say something like "Come to Tennessee and you'll get paid $1M in NIL deals", but can say something "If you come to Tennessee, there are a number of NIL opportunities that are available to Tennessee players, but that's between you and the NIL organizations."

Shocking Tennessee being investigated again?! I'm not shocked they once again are threatening the NCAA with a lawsuit. It worked the last time for them like a year ago.

With back to back investigations and if this were the 80's Tennessee football would be gone just like SMU.

or blatant violations of federal law???
It's past time for the NCAA to get what they deserve for doing this.
We should be supporting the states of Virginia and Tennessee, FSU, the University of Florida, and anyone else that's suing the NCAA over their continued illegal attempts to limit athletes endorsement income or where they get it.
