Clowney hit - NFL rule question - just curious

not trying to go off campus on this post - but curious on NFL rules - Refs seem to be tossing yellow on anything in preseason -

So Clown goes loco on the RB yesterday for TFL - a very nice display if you ask me - however, unless I am totally wrong - was that not in some way a helmet to helmet? Not saying that Clown was targeting or trying to do it - but what kind of ruling is that going to get in the NFL?

Well- it wasn't helmet to helmet in the first place

and 2nd -


helmet to helmet rule applies outside the tackle box or - at least 3 yards downfield- not right at the line of scrimmage right in the middle of the field (which is where Clowney's hit was at)

so the rule didn't apply in the first place- even if it was a helmet to helmet.
