This is an amazing catch for Coach BB

Players of this caliber never give the Tigers a second look. Hopefully he will be even better than the St Patrick guard for the Celtics. Big city guards= success.

Definitely a welcome surprise. We've learned not to count our tiger cubs before they're born when it comes to basketball recruits of this caliber.

Welcome aboard young man. You will love it here.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It must be quite an eye-opener for a kid who's spent

Oct 11, 2018, 4:12 PM

his entire life in and around cities to wake up and find himself in Clemson, SC. But like so many before him, before he leaves, he'll have fallen in love with the "rural-ness" and the mountains and lakes.

Hope he winds up a major contributor to the basketball team.....Brad Brownell deserves to have a recruit grow into a big-time NBA prospect......meanwhile, Ol' Roy Williams remains dumbfounded how Clemson EVER signs a recruit without the baksheesh

Huge get for Brownell & Co.!

Oct 11, 2018, 3:54 PM

Top 100, 4 star PGs from the NYC area don't usually come to Clemson. It would be great to open up that pipeline, a la Georgia Tech in the 80s and 90s under Cremins.

great pick up. like this better than Josiah James. already PG ready and St Patrick's In Elizabeth New Jersey. great program that has good competerion unlike James small prep school. they have sent quality guards to NBA like Kyrie Irving. really blew up this summer for New Jersey Playaz. was third team EYBI AAU circut.
i think Coach Antino Reynolds Dean is out best recruter now. was the lead recruiter here along with commit Chase Hunter for this class.

Amen Judge. There was a guy named McGuire who did ok as well. Remember him?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Big get. He's tough and smart

Oct 11, 2018, 4:15 PM

exactly what you want in a PG. Now get a quality big and you have a great class. And I still think we have a good shot at Brown

Re: Big get. He's tough and smart

Oct 11, 2018, 4:24 PM

what is the latest on Christian Brown?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Been quiet. Signing week is in about a month

Oct 11, 2018, 5:43 PM

so I'd suspect we hear something soon

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It is thought to be between us and Georgia for him.

Oct 12, 2018, 2:33 PM [ in reply to Re: Big get. He's tough and smart ]

The 247Sports Crystal Ball was a heavy lean toward us until very recently, and now it is very heavy toward UGA. I don't put much stock in those anymore, as they both had Zion Williamson and Josiah James as heavy leans toward us and both predictions were wrong.

https://247sports.com/PlayerInstitution/Christian-Brown-at-Lower-Richland-178271/CurrentExpertPredictions/

He is a 5 star, top 30 player so he would be a huge get for us. I like our chances a lot, despite what the "crystal ball" currently says.

Oct 11, 2018, 8:15 PM [ in reply to Big get. He's tough and smart ]

my understanding they don't take a "big" in this class unless a really top kid just falls in our lap. got the transfer from UNC-a sitting out. Jemerson may RS due to a foot/leg injury he's nursing.also a possibility malik williams RS due to injury/health concerns.

badge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think red-shirting Malik would be a smart move

Oct 11, 2018, 9:11 PM

He's probably 6 deep on the depth chart at 4-5 behind Thomas, Simms, White, Skara and Jemison. That would have them at 5 bigs for next year. We have 4 scholarships available. I think Brown is number 1 our list. They may leave a scholarship available for a transfer next season.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They won't redshirt both William and Jemison

Oct 11, 2018, 9:14 PM [ in reply to Re: Big get. He's tough and smart ]

though. Need 5 guys for depth. That is, unless both are down for the year injury wise which I've seen nowhere

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: They won't redshirt both William and Jemison

Oct 11, 2018, 9:29 PM

staff doesn't always "publicize" injuries. both have situations that COULD lead to a RS. agree, we'd prob rather not RS both ,esp with Behre sitting out. but saying it could happen.

to be a student at CU and watch Skip Wise. Not comparing this kid to him, but looking forward to another inner city, smart, tough street baller to add a new dynamic to and continue to elevate our program.

Re: I had the pleasure...

Oct 11, 2018, 5:01 PM

Couldn’t agree more. A definate move in the right direction. I have said many times that basketball is a city playground game. Wonder if they project any growth from him? He’s probably 16 or 17.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Let's hope he's smarter than Skip was.

Oct 11, 2018, 5:40 PM [ in reply to I had the pleasure... ]

I had a class with Skip Wise. On the rare occasion he showed up, he slept through it. He was a great talent. Came in at the same time Phil Ford came to UNC, and surpassed Ford for freshman honors. (First team all-ACC!) But money called, and he was off to the ABA after one year. His team, the Baltimore Claws, never played a regular season game. Drugs kept him from making a team, and a couple years later, he was in jail. A sad story.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Let's hope he's smarter than Skip was.

Oct 11, 2018, 6:57 PM

Agreed, a waste of talent and a life, but he sure gave the ACC teams he## for one glorious year.

Re: Let's hope he's smarter than Skip was.

Oct 11, 2018, 8:35 PM

You’re wrong about a waste of life. He got together later on and helped a lot of kids

Re: Let's hope he's smarter than Skip was.

Oct 11, 2018, 9:38 PM [ in reply to Let's hope he's smarter than Skip was. ]

He was amazing , we played great at home that year. If my shaky memory is right, we beat all the big boys at home. So glad to hear he got his life together.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He plays for a private school in suburban New Jersey.

Oct 11, 2018, 8:26 PM [ in reply to I had the pleasure... ]

But I hear what you’re saying. He definitely plays tough and seems fearless. He will be a great fit for our program.

Private school up there is far different than

Oct 11, 2018, 9:18 PM

the one's down here. Far more intense competition. That's not a knock on James. But we've signed 2, blue chip kids from SCISA schools, and both fell far short of expectations. Bynum and Jennings

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agreed about competition, but I wasn't referring to that.

Oct 11, 2018, 9:37 PM

I was responding to the post referring to him as an "inner city street baller." Thus, it was important to point out that he is from suburban NJ, not Harlem.

I absolutely agree about private school basketball competition in NJ being much better than private school competition in SC. I actually like Dawes's game just as much as Josiah James's, and think Dawes will be a great fit for us.

Trenton is a whopping nine miles from New York City!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Trenton is actually right across the river from Philadelphia

Oct 12, 2018, 2:35 PM

Dawes is not from Trenton. He is from Newark - perhaps that's what you meant?

Anyone else nervous when kids talk about themselves in third

Oct 11, 2018, 5:03 PM

Person?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I saw that. But...

Oct 11, 2018, 5:30 PM

Since the reporter had just quoted him speaking in first-person, I think that the quotation you're referring to is second-person with a missing attribution. Maybe it was his coach or a scout speaking about him. If he can play and will represent Clemson well, he can speak in sixth-person for all I care.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Ricky Henderson did it for years
