Amazing how events develop over time. Tommy was a pair of the shoulders that Dabo's success stands upon. Or, would Dabo just be a good insurance salesman? What is Bobby Bowden had never left WV? Or, if FSU had followed thru on dropping football and just returning to a teacher's college. There's a plan in all that. I remember at the first "Bowden Bowl" to learn that Bobby Bowden was speaking at a Prayer Breakfast that morning. How do get that in with all the game preparation? You get it in, because it is more important than the game. The game just provides an opportunity for that Prayer Breakfast. Tommy recognized it, and Dabo has expanded it. There are many men who would still be lost had it not been for Bobby, Tommy, & Dabo. It really is more than just "winning the game of football". Winning isn't everything, it's an opportunity to lead young men and women in the right direction in life. My HS coach instilled that in me and I look for it in others. Dabo has "it".

I just hope that Tommy and wife has a really good experience of being back in Clemson to honor a Giant that Bobby was to FSU FB for all those years. But most importantly, I hope that our fans in the stands Saturday will be very respectful to Tommy and his family!!!
It's been a long time since Tommy has been back to DV, and it's been more than enough time to let any hostilities that our fan base felt toward Tommy to be over with bc, Tommy did do a lot in helping our FB program to get where it's been since he has been gone.
After all, none of us knew who Dabo Swinney was before Tommy brought him to Clemson, and that one hire by Tommy has helped Clemson FB to win 2 NC, 7 ACC titles, and 7 straight playoff game. It's about time that we/Clemson fans to show Tommy our appreciation with out full respect on Saturday. And if you can't find it in your hearts to say something good about Tommy, be respectful and say nothing at all!!!
Go Tigers, beat FSU!!!!

Can you imagine what Tommy Bowden would have accomplished with the talent on our current roster?

but I hope that people will be respectful toward BOTH Coach Bowdens. I know that Tommy in particular can be a lightning rod around here, but it would be nearly impossible to argue that he didn't contribute at all to the run of success we have enjoyed over the last decade.

bottom out period. Bowden at least got us back to winning just couldn't get over that proverbial hump consistently adn then Dabo brought in the mental edge of getting over the hump and still doing it with class. Tommy was definitely a positive in Clemson football program history.

I’ve never understood the TB hate around here. He represented our University with class and was a gigantic part of our rise and the culture we have now.
IMO, if you hate TB you are not really a Clemson fan. Again, IMO.

He was a good man trying to great things. Unfortunately he probably was loyal to a fault. This industry doesn’t have the patience for loyalty. He was a victim of that. Mark Richt too.

It has been - I remember the first Bowden Bowl very well. We got in with $5 bills folded the size of the tickets and a friendly gate keeper! Those were the days before QR codes! Rumors were that game had about 95,000 real people there...
Both Bobby (dating back to the rivalry and punt-ruskie with Danny) and Tommy (who brought our program back to respectability) are integral parts of the history of Clemson football for the last 40 years. You might say Tommy did for Dabo what Charlie Pell did for Danny in setting the table! Glad we are honoring that family.

not only that but he dominated South Carolina winning 7 out of 9 games and could have been 8 out 9 had he left Reggie Merriweather in late in the 4th Qtr. of the 2006 game

Since 2008:
-Tom Winkopp has destroyed downtown with generic high-rise apartments. -123 is a ClusterF of traffic at any time of day -Cost of attendance is up over 60% -Clemson House is gone, replaced by a dorm with a pool (see previous cost of attendance line item) -Lot 2 inexplicably has a giant water plant now at the end, and costs a minimum IPTAY donation about 3x what it did in 2008
Like Thomas Wolfe said, you can never go home again.

If so, it makes it even worse. ??
His ability to create such eyesores in what was a beautiful, quaint small town tells us all we need to know about the power of $$. What a ######!

but I cut Hatfield and West some clack nowadays after reading the in-depth interviews during their time here. West especially would love to have a few decisions back, but the overall drop in support of the program at the time (university, funding, fans, etc.) really hampered progress. People just kept saying...well Danny this and Danny that..like he would've gone 11-0 every year....they fought that stink in recruiting and facility progress. Heck, even Bowden fought the facility battle for years and never really reap those benefits.

I wish it hadn’t taken this long for you to visit us.
I had so much respect for your dad. Bobby was one of a kind and an amazing person! He had an impact on us “college football fans”. I remember waking up on Saturday mornings and just watching game day clips of him and F. St. He shaped my childhood.
I know things ended badly between you and us but I hope Saturday brings peace when you step on the field. Know that we loved & respected your dad and you. Thank you for what you did for our University.
Go TIGERS!

They both gave me a deep love for the game of college football. I was 14 years old when we hired Tommy and didn't miss a home game while he was coach. Alot of tough times but man was it fun!!!
