Does it seem CU's special team execution is perennially weak

part in our team? Seems to me, it's the same year after year. Why can't it get fixed like our defense was fixed? Just sayin'.

ObiWan: Our ST's are very weak every year and not at the level they need to be to win it all!! I believe it is a coaching issue and a new ST coach needs to be put in place charged with fixing this huge problem

hmmm....what part of special teams? we have actually enjoyed one of the best eras in our history in terms of our kicking over the last several years- both punting and placekicking, and heugel has been pretty solid so far.
our kick coverage gave up a big play on thursday- but its not a regular occurrence-
could you clarify?

Well, I would love for us to kick the ball through the endzone every time. I would take that as opposed to what we saw last Thursday and also some very poor coverage on KO's in the other games. It's just my opinion, and I imagine the coaches would like very high KO's to the goal line so coverage could converge and pinning deep is a potential. It doesn't seem like we can do that either. I just want it better than we've seen so far.

2012 we gave up a huge return at Florida State when we had a lot of momentum, UGA game last year we gave up a kick return, against Louisville giving up the kick return #### near cost us the game.
Do I need to bring up 2013 and fielding punts, especially against USC jr?
Now I will agree that Pinion and Catman were two extremely good kickers for us and that was a very bright spot on special teams, but it's hard to say the positives outweigh the negatives.

Not even close.

This year has been a struggle at times, but the last several years with a solid Catman and booming Pinion were stellar. The job of the return team is simply to keep the ball in Clemson's possession given our stellar offense... no need to risk fumbling a punt, hence the number of fair catches we have seen. Our kick coverage last few years was excellent. Guys like Tony Steward flying to the ball.
Lakip was pretty good last year after his early struggles. We have freshman attempting punt returns and are still trying to find our identity there this year. The glaring issue to this point is kick coverage. I expect this will be fixed by next game.

Our execution is perennially weak in terms of coverage and setting up blocking for returns. Likewise, our TE blocking hasn't improved in the slightest with the exception of Garrett Williams, who came in as a blocker. I'd go so far as to say that there's a common thread between those two major issues. Y'all can draw your own conclusions, but I've made mine.

Who was your team last year and before that?

This is Clemson's first year struggling with kicking since Catman was a freshman. That's like, five years ago.

Yeah you are right the cocaine cowboy made all of his kicks last year especially vs fsu . Kickoff coverage is still terrible and was last year see uga game last year . Kickoff return terrible. Punt return is also very bad and nobody blocks . Do our players know you can block on returns ?

It's the special teams coordinator coupled with Dabo's roster management.

Our kickoff coverage has been atrocious the past few years

After seeing how awful it was against App State, I knew we were going to give up one soon, and that happened against Louisville. I think we will see a couple more kickoffs returned for TD's this year. Our punting and field goal kicking has been pretty good, but kickoffs, no. The only thing that may be worse than our kickoff coverage is our kickoff returns.
