Offensive coordinator

As I've hinted at, those inside the program believe that QB's coach Brandon Streeter will be bumped to offensive coordinator and Kyle Richardson will move to the on-field staff. It appears everything is trending in that direction. I've been told no announcements until "it all shakes out" but it certainly appears it is all shaking out.

And last year we had the best passing offense (ypg) in Clemson history. So "much of the same" would be good, no?
This year we fell off, for reasons not related to playcalling.

What we had was a bunch of first round talent running rough-shod over a defenseless cupcake league. Now you can say it was their recruiting, but it #### sure wasnt the mind-blowing offensive scheme and play calling.

3rd, 3rd, and 2nd highest rated overall SOS rankings.
We achieved those scoring averages against some of the best overall cumulative SOS ratings in the country when you look at the totality of games played.
It's not like other offensive powerhouses were doing it against better defenses.
Look at: Teamrankings.com
Our offense has been one of the most consistent in the country, and the opponent defenses are accounted for.

This year was a case of Clemson’s offense falling in line with the rest of the ACC in terms of talent. And when that occurred and we couldn’t out-talent folks , Clemson’s offense was at the bottom of the worst P5 conference in CFB.
And the issue here is, these are numbers that are not excused away by your feelings

isn't maybe the issue DJ and not Streeter perhaps? Can he make him be more accurate? A lot of pass plays that were called had the ball sail 10 feet over the players heads. I heard they stressed footwork and mechanics and all that but sometimes the person executing has to do his job as well.

Its timing and repetition and DJ was out there looking like he didn't know where the receivers were going half the time and panic ran after the 1st guy he stared down was covered. I dont see any part of DJs game that improved this year. Not one.

Why is he getting this promotion?
Against a pathetic ACC schedule the offense finished 95th. DJ finished 108 out of 112 that were rated. I know DJ is terrible - the numbers speak for themselves. The optics of a promotion from this QB debacle are hard to swallow. So Street is better than any potential OC candidate that will be let go from the NFL at years end? Sorry, I'm not buying it. The talent is deep enough to roll the helmets on the field next year and win at least 8 or 9. Time will tell beyond that based on the players we can attract. That's been Dabo's strength in the past so I hope it can carry us into the future.

Personally, I'd go after someone like David Cutliffe. He is a QB whisperer and tight with the Manning family which couldn't hurt in the recruitment of Arch Manning and I believe he still has an innovative offensive mind that could be applied to tailoring a new offense for us. I know he and Dabo were once pretty tight. I have no idea if he would even consider an OC role but that is the kind of individual I wish we were going after. I trust Dabo but I'm also very concerned with the inexperience of the people taking on these roles. Promoting from within is great as long as they really have proven themselves and have the years under the belt in a variety of cycles to show for it and not just ridden on someone else's coattails.
Losing both coordinators, the AD and now some key recruits have made for a humbling month. Maybe in the end it all works out and we will look back on this as a blessing in disguise. Let's hope...

That’s because our rushing attack dropped from 6.4 yards per carry to 4.5. We avg 90 yards less in rushing and 60 yards more in passing. We had about 7 more passing attempts per game

Is this promotion more because he is the best for the job or the best available for the job? Do you see this as a 1 year trial where if the 2022 offense looks like 2021 then we go out and get a big name?
Like most, I would have preferred a splashy hire at both DC and OC, but not sure at this point who we could poach. Maybe both roles are somewhat interim and Dabo keeps an eye on next year’s coaching carousel.
Also, for all of the finger pointing on where to place blame this season, I don’t see it as being on any one person or a single sole reason. DJ was probably overrated and not quite ready, the O-Line MAC quality and never stable, our WR/TE corps was a MASH unit, and our starting RB was benched/run off for reasons I’m still not clear on.
Perfect storm of stink.
Hopefully we don’t have any/many more departures prior to the bowl and can scrap out a win. 10 wins in a nightmare season isn’t the end of the world, just the expectations are much much higher now.

No issues with LJ leaving. Sounded like he did not have the mindset to compete and we have some good ones right now. We went from WRU to now our RB’s were the strength behind this year’s offense.

I’m okay with Brandon Streeter getting the Offensive Coordinator position but I hope Coach Swinney atleast looks around and puts feelers out.
We say “The Best is the Standard”. Maybe that’s Streeter. I’ll give Dabo the benefit of the doubt I just hope we do our due diligence in the process of finding out who really is the best. Let’s see who else is interested in coming to Clemson and leading our offense. I bet we would be pretty surprised at some of the names! (Names that have a lot of good experience calling plays)

I guess “we’ll see” is appropriate here. We saw how Elliot was caught blind in the UGA game. Its part of his job to be adept at preseason evals, and he grew alot as a coach this year. Trust that no team he leads will take the field with a QB incapable of even the basics, he learned that at our expense the hard way. He adapted by the end of the season after battling the common problem of injuries and changing personel to a great degree. I don’t know Streeter’s mindset, but I am inclined to believe it needs to fall in line with Coach V’s mantra that “every battle is won before it is fought” and that is why he will succeed without any doubt at OK. We need an OC that asserts his will on teams and doesn’t simply “look for what a defense may give us.” because playoff level teams won’t give us anything. We will have to find something they are forced to stop and cause them valuable effort to do so.

No OC in the country with the greatest game plan ever can do well against a team with Georgia’s talent when their offensive line can’t block. If you can’t block them, you can’t be successful. Clemson could not block Georgia, at all.

I was hard on TE early in the season but as things progressed it became obvious that were severely hammered by our QB play. Yes there were other issues as well but when your QB can't hit open receivers, or be a threat in the running game, no offense is going to thrive. I think TE basically giving up on doing anything other than running the ball was ultimately wise but you can't blame him for expecting his 5 star QB to be able to complete basic passes.
