Thousands of south Carolinians who have good academic resumes (CV is what they are called now) will have their dreams crushed today.
I bet any one of them would love to get in on a football scholarship and jump at the chance to be mistreated and taken advantage of.

go to a local community college for 2 years and transfer in. It's cheaper that way and is a route that your wallet will thank you for.

Isn’t it almost guaranteed acceptance if you go community college and have at least a 2.5 that you can transfer in?

Be a great athlete Have a rich relative Be female Be black or Hispanic brown. For clemson..Be from New jersey.
If you are a white or Asian male.. you are are at a disadvantage.
My nephew has a 4.3 GPA and a 1340 sat score. He didn't get in. I thought he would have gotten early admittance in December but was for sure he'd get in.
But he is a male Asian born and raised in South carolina. Poor kid.

Being that Clemson's student population is consistently 75% or more Caucasian, Caucasian males can't possibly be at a disadvantage. The Asian population is pretty paltry at 2-3%, but how many apply in a given year and how did your nephew stack up against the total number of applications? Dr. Clements is a proponent of excellence AND diversity, so, I doubt that admissions would see Asian on an excellent application but still set it aside. The Black population is only 5% and Hispanics make up about 8% of the student population, so, it would seem that because Clemson generally accepts about 35% of applications for enrollment, Caucasian females are the biggest population and Caucasian males are the second biggest population accepted for enrollment. Also, contrary to popular belief, scholarship athletes count into the enrollment numbers, but they do not count against the enrollment/acceptance numbers. Scholarship athletes are their own demographic, so they do not compete with nor hinder non-athletes from acceptance. Clemson is a brilliant academic institution, so, why would anyone think Clemson doesn't know how to balance academic goals with athletic goals? I am particularly saddened when a home grown student does not get accepted (been there, done that with my own children), but why blame the school for a personal shortcoming? My children are legacies, but were not accepted, so, throw that out. My family has a scholarship endowment set up, so, throw that out. Clemson simply cannot accept every application that applies, it has to have cut-offs, we all have felt them but let's not fall into denigrating the great job overall that Clemson does to be a beacon of educational excellence because that excellence comes with a high price.

The Bridge program changed that dynamic a good bit since I was there. Now Clemson is basically locking in the inbound transfers for next year in the Bridge program. As noted you have to get thru Bridge/TCTC with certain requirements.
I don't think its as much of the wild west open transfer population as it was a couple decades ago.

This! My daughter applied and was accepted into the nursing program at CU last year. When we sat down and began the enrollment process, she was shocked at the remaining costs after aid and scholarships. She came to ger mom and I and said"im not doing that". She said I called tri-county and I'll get my ADN there and do the 1 year at CU for my Bachelors. We were really proud she got accepted, but way more proud that she made an adult decision at age 18. The cost of a 4 year school does not correlate to the earnings potential after graduation. I hope more young people begin to realize that these large institutions are simply money making machines!!

Best of luck but I had two high academic daughters who both were bridged over lower academic friends. After discussing it with friends it seems that a large percentage of legacies and double legacies are bridged in favor of less qualified non-legacies. Instead of bridging both daughters spent a year at year at other state schools (Lander and Winthrop) where they received great financial aide packages then transferred to CU. One has already graduated ### Laude and the other is on the same track for this December, a semester early. The tech school/community college is also a great path to transfer and the ring and diploma are exactly the same as everyone else. We now have four Tigers in the house and nine in the family and all but one went the transfer route. Blessings and good luck whatever path you choose. Let us know how it goes.
Go Tigres!!!

Can always do the Bridge program or transfer in. It looks the same on the degree in the end.
I grew up out of state and I didn't decide I wanted to go to Clemson until after I had graduated high school, so I missed every application deadline. My only option was going to a state school I didn't want to go to, or community college. I chose CC, went there for a year and transferred in to Clemson. I even spaced out my credits once I got to Clemson so I could still experience 4 years football seasons, which I'm sure drove my parents nuts lol. Best decision I ever made.

You live on campus with other kids so you know people when you get kicked outta the dorms.

You're really just paying to live on campus. Most of my friends in school were bridge kids and they enjoyed it, but you're right. Especially if you live in the upstate, just go to Greenville Tech or TCTC for a year and transfer in if Clemson is where they really want to be.

I bridged and opted to stay at home while I was at Tech because I didn’t want to pay the dorm cost. It made a lot of sense for me because I paid Tech tuition, which was really cheap, and I also was pretty much guaranteed a spot. I recommend the bridge program to anybody that is local. I don’t recommend the bridge program to anyone that is not local. If you’re not local and you want to go to Clemson but didn’t get in, just go to your local community college and transfer.

Def not a racket. If you are Bridge, attend TCTC and meet the requirements you are guaranteed to then move out of Bridge into gen-pop.
If you chose to go to TCTC on your own and then apply to transfer in you are behind the Bridge kids in line.
Its pretty much a preferred transfer program for Clemson. It was a smart move on their part.

If they want to get in on a football scholarship, they should’ve been an elite athlete.
If they’re neither an elite student nor athlete, they’re better off transferring in. All you need is a 3.0 from tctc and you’ll save money.

All you need to remember Clemson accepts based on majors ---- so if you/child is applying for one of the more popular majors, competition is crazy ... if not, a bit less competitive ...
Would be curious as to those with high achievers that were asked to bridge -- what were there desired majors? I know nursing for one is ridiculous.
Either way good luck to all.

I'd love to see what the "easier" majors are to get accepted into now a days. When I was in school I knew quite a few people that applied and got accepted in various CAFLS majors and then changed majors later. But who knows because the Food Science and Packaging schools are super competitive now too.

Keep your head up and find the right path for you. Clemson is very difficult to get into, especially for some majors. As I mentioned earlier, both my daughters were bridged and both were high academics and double legacies. One spent a year at Lander and applied for transfer admissions to Clemson without telling another soul. She was accepted and graduated *###* Laude. The second daughter, same exact deal, bridged. She went to Winthrop and found her groove but still applied for Clemson transfer admission and was accepted. She was very happy at Winthrop and struggled mightily with her decision. Her mother and I basically told her that it was her life and 100% her decision. Her aunt told her that she had to decide what was right for her and her advice was she could graduate from Winthrop and have a great career but Winthrop isn't Clemson, nowhere else is Clemson, there is only one Clemson and while that is fine with most people would it be fine with her or would she regret not going to Clemson. After that, at the 11th hour, she chose Clemson and is very happy with her decision.
You can start somewhere else, get as close to a 4.0 as you can and apply to Clemson as soon as you have 30 hours. You will need to choose the right classes for both schools and if you're accepted to Clemson and plan you can graduate on time if you choose the Clemson route. My younger will graduate in 3.5 total years, even with transferring, in December.
Best wishes for your journey. This is not a roadblock it is just a turn, a turn that can open doors to more experiences. It is painful, both of my daughters cried when bridged, one in Littlejohn at a Duke basketball game but they have both grown and really had a fuller college experience because of their paths. God bless you.

And we learned today that her cousin was accepted Summer term, which brought some relief to us all and gives us hope that our girl will be welcomed into Clemson nation this time next year, if not sooner.
Between them, they have a rich legacy at Clemson: 1 Great-Grandfather is a Tiger 3 Great Uncles 1 Grandmother 1 Grandfather 1 Father 2 Aunts 5 Cousins

The reason so many of our good instate students are getting rejected is because our school has decided to take a bunch of Yankees because they pay double what in staters pay. Facts
