We could barely score 21 points.

That group got better as the season progressed

The only caveat to the comparison is that they managed to win all the low scoring games.
This team is not the 1981 Tigers, but they still have the chance to improve on offense start scoring points.
I prefer to compare this team to the 2003 Tigers ... horrible start to the season, but fantastic finish.

That's definitely wrong.

We scored 82 against Wake and 45 against Wofford. That was back when Wake was worse than Furman.
Median score was 21 that season.
I'm not suggesting at all any sort of comparison to this year. I'm just saying that we were not good at all on offense that season. Our defense was absolutely incredible.
Different times. That's all. It's just interesting how the standards have changed. I think it's more acceptable now to win games 55-48 like Oklahoma than it is to win games 19-13.

The majority of the offense was running with a few passes scattered here and there. Back then we had an OL that would wear the DL down through the game.

People were definitely worried when we had trouble with Tulane. The Tarhole game was also extremely tight but overall and especially late in the season, our defense was very dominant. That’s how I remember it.

Opening game we trailed Wofford 0-3, 3-3 end of the 1st Quarter, 10-3 at the half. Trailed Tulane 0-5 after 1st Quarter, 7-5 at the half. Trailed Kentucky 0-3 at the half. Scored on the opening possession of the 2nd half.
So in 1981 we never trailed in a game after our 1st possession of the 2nd half!

I thought the same until Nancy State unloaded on us. That hurt my defensive feelings.

We were an option team in 1981, but we had a pretty wide open offense. It was not the wishbone.
Every time Homer Jordan took a snap, there was the good chance the play would go all the way.
Very few clouds of dust.
Also, our passing game with guys like Perry Tuttle was strong.

I was referring to the game in general. But as for us, we average 28.....but if you take out the 82 point Wake game it was 23. Take out the Wofford game and it was really around 21 per game. May have been pretty "wide open" for the day.....

Taking out high scoring games to affect the narrative is not

legit.
All games count toward the cumulative season statistical results.
I mean, take out the Georgia and NC State games and were 3-0, right.

1981 would beat the #### out of 2021 team
Oct 12, 2021, 4:06 PM
|
|
1981 team was #3 all-time Clemson team iMHO.
# 1 2018 Power Rangers, strong DB’s and LB’s, TL16 and WR’s.
#2 2016 was DW4 putting Clemson back on top beating a Bama team who was better at 15 of 22 positions.
But like Skalski sez, let’s see what kind of heart this 2021 team has - lots of ball to play and lots of opportunity for improvement.

My son was also born in November 1981. The Tigers averaged 28.2 points on offense and the Defense allowed 8.7 points per game. Nine times the defense held a team to 10 or fewer points. I had to stay close to home and only got to go one away game and that was Tulane. A 13 - 5 victory.

Shoot, the 13 points we scored on UGA in 1981 would've beaten them this year

The DC Tom Moore saw on film that Buck Belew threw high if he didn't plant his feet and we came after him with a DB deep in ccoverage I think Belew threw 5 ints.

Nowadays it’s an offensive game. What makes our lack of offense even more frustrating is that we have a championship caliber D this year (most years really)
