Did Clemson baseball peak too soon?

I certainly don’t want to overreact but I have some real concerns. Clemson’s record in their last 9 games is 4 & 5 & they are not playing no where near the level they were. I know there are always peaks & valleys during the seasons. Also I know 2 starters are out as well but it’s more than that. The bottom third of their batting order 7 through 9 no matter who is in those spots has been dreadful lately. Also Obertop is starting to strikeout at an alarming rate. Plenty of time left. I am just worrying that they have already played their best baseball & the rest of the season is going to be a struggle.

They’re reminding me of Clemson basketball, maybe we can turn it around when it matters.
I saw a comment that asked why we turn every opposing pitcher into an all American, super similar to what we saw most of the season with 3 point shooting.

This team will be in Omaha barring anymore injuries.
This is all part of their story.

I don’t know that they peaked or if they got lucky? I think we all would like to see this team advance to Omaha however. Getting out of the regional is the current goal. Let’s get to a super regional and see what happens.

I also don’t want to overreact but most if not all on this board have been watching sports a long time and we all know the “feel”.
Everyone here knows what I’m talking about. You try to talk yourself out of it and justify it in your head that it’s injuries or “that’s baseball” or just plain ol bad luck but…
If we’re being honest the “feel” is not good right now. It “feels” exactly like a team that peaked to early and then we hit our dip and not only that but the injuries started to pile up.
I do like the comparison to the basketball team that maybe we’ll turn it back around come tournament time but we have to see it first. This program hasn’t advanced out of a regional in something like 13/14 years so we’ll have to see it to believe it.
We can absolutely play with anyone but it just seems like the opponent almost always makes the play that needs to be made. That includes last night… last year against Tennessee and all the other ones that we’ve let slip away over the years.
This program has got to start answering the bell when it matters most. FSU was awesome and unbelievable but at the end of the day that was just a regular season series. Not saying it doesn’t matter but that didn’t matter the most.
What’s coming ahead is what matters most and I’m hoping and praying this team will be the one that answers the bell but again… the “feel” right now is not good.

Please learn to give credit to opponents because their players are on scholarship, want to win and are in most cases as good as our players. Last night is a perfect example in what was expected to be a high scoring game turned out to be a pitchers game. A baseball performance today has nothing to do with the next day because hitters see different pitchers who throw different pitches.

I understand the other team has good players too. I’m not disagreeing with that at all however…
It’s not about the opponent. It’s about Clemson. We have all the pieces we need to win it all. I refuse to EVER let an opponent dictate our fate.
I think that’s also become a problem with football where we prepare for what’s on tape an then the opponent throws something different at us and we look like we’ve never taken a snap. GT a couple years ago comes to mind in this regard but that’s a different matter altogether.
To H*ll with letting an opponent dictate to us how the game is going to be played. The great teams and real contenders force opponents to play the way they want the game played.
I fully understand this is baseball so it’s a tad different bc they’re so many games but last night was not a once in a blue moon occurrence.
This has happened to this program over an over for awhile now and it has to stop.
The injuries are what they are and yes they’re massive right now but we’re also not the only team in America that has to deal with them. Some teams are luckier than others in this regard and it seems we’ve been on the short stick of this in all sports recently.
Regardless… this team has got to shake this funk and get with the “next man up” mentality… regardless of who the opponent is.
Real contenders have this ability. We’re still waiting to see if we do.

The 2 starters being out hurts big time so it's going to take a few games to figure out a new lineup....disappointed in Obertop at the plate last night.

Ciufo and Taylor both going down to injuries over this stretch. That's definitely going to have an impact on chemistry and production. Rather see them adjust and reestablish now versus a month from now.
Go Tigers.

Injuries has forced EB to severely tinker with the lineup. We have the pieces to make a serious post season run, but they have to start producing at crucial times. Most teams don't replace players like Cuifo and Taylor easily. Cuifo was a webgem machine and clutch at the plate when the pressure was high. Taylor's batting average doesn't tell the whole story because his on base percentage is near the top of the league. He's also an above average defender. Getting him back healthy will be a must for a deep run.
We were fortunate that we have built some cache with the national pollsters and the RPI. It allows us some leeway to drop a few games as we figure out the right lineup and defensive pieces.
Two out hits are priceless, and I can't tell you the last time we've been consistent executing in that regard. That has to change in order to make a long run in the post season.

Nope...a hot start leads to a cold mid season which leads to a hot finish.
I'd rather a slump (if you can call it that) be mid season tongive ample time to shake it and get hot right in time for the post season.
We've seen the Phillies do this two years in a row to the braves. Braves have killed it hot starts and then slump in the post season and lose to the shotty phils

Newsflash:
We pieced together an amazing performance from our pitching staff to hold the opponent to what should have been 3 runs and a 4-3 win @ UGA and the best offense in the SEC.
We made the best College hitter on the planet virtually non existent.
Smith is coming back and building back to 100%. Taylor will be back for postseason.
We got hosed by the umps and lost by a run in 15 innings.
This team is more prepared and mentally tough than you’re giving them credit for. We had multiple guys show up with STUFF on the mound last night. Low mid 90’s and stuff to go with it.
This team has the right chemistry but is working through a road bump. This isn’t your Monte Lee or last years of JL Tiger team.
You’ll see.

I actually think the pitching is starting to solidify. Smith needs to work his way back into form. Hopefully that starts this weekend. Darden needs to be more consistent too. That Georgia lineup is full of both power and guys hitting for average. The bullpen looked pretty good until Reed’s meltdown. Gordon is giving the Tigers that flame thrower that can get a couple clutch strikeouts. The issue right now as posted by others is the loss of Ciufo and Taylor. It’s forced Hinderleider to short and juggling of more players at first. Loss of consistency in the infield can really hurt as we saw for several games of costly errors.

Last year I had the feeling the team had the talent and chemistry to win it all. Win the UT game who knows how everything would have played out, but it was a gut punch to get sent packing so early. I do not have the same expectations this year but at the very least hoping to make the CWS. It's been a while.
