Yes… still $2 at each end

A couple of $2 stops to avoid the Mauldin metropolis

I guess it's worth it occasionally, but not everyday. How much is the pass? It is a straight shot to the GMH area a block off Cleveland Street.

Last time I travelled it I was pulling my tandem axle bass boat. Well they charge per axle after the 2 on your car. I didn't think they would charge extra for bass boat but it cost me close to $30 for that jaunt. I was not happy.

Made the same mistake…once. Lesson learned.***

Took it a good bit when there was a lot of construction on 385 & 85. But was only $.75 each. If traffic is bad and running late can still be worth it. Glad to know about the trailer fees. Will avoid that.

I have a pass. $30 per month I think. Mrs. Spud pays the bil

...I will have to check and see if the charge me for the trailer. I have to admit I don't even know. If they do...I guess I will be going thru Mauldin on Laurens Road from now on and drop it...That is ridiculous!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

First world problems, according to Spud.

Well, the upside is that you saved a couple minutes for that $30.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Very strange road...kind of twilight zone-ish....

Everyone here pretty much avoids it.

Sometimes it's actually $4 - 2 to get on and 2 to get off. Very tricky and hard to understand unless you are a local who avoids it.

A sweet night lady takes up the 2 when you get on, and then when you get off there's another sweet night lady who looks exactly like the first one, so then you find yourself wondering, "Did I just go anywhere at all?"

In essence, it doesn't take you anywhere - or at least anywhere that you can't just take an alternate route.

They'd have been better thinking about putting rail lines in GVL, but planners with college degrees are not that smart.

The only time I used that road at the insistence of my mother-in-law, there was nobody in the booth where we got off and the sign said to toss our quarters in the "bucket" which I did, but one did not register so a message said I needed to put one more in. Didn't have another one and just drove away thinking the cameras recording license plate numbers would send me a notice of nonpayment and fine me an amount much greater than 25 cents. Didn't happen though.

Something about paying an additional fee to ride on a road in the name of convenience after I pay taxes has never set well with me.

If it's anything like the $ roads around Charlotte

the money doesn't even go to the state. Some foreign company owns them. I avoid them at all costs, very expensive if pulling a tandem axle trailer!!
I truly would love to see them go bankrupt.

Whenever we travel from our house in Easley/Powdersville to the Midlands or Lowcountry and back, my gps says I can save one minute by taking the toll road. Doesn’t seem worth it to me.

The connector, or whatever they call it now, was plagued with financial problems from the start. I'm not sure if they have ever figured everything out, except raising tolls seems like one solution if there was still a significant amount of traffic. I have not heard that a foreign company owns it, but would not be surprised if it had been sold.

The state of SC owns and maintains the Southern Connecter.

A Spanish company, Cintra, built the toll lanes in Charlotte on 77 and will receive tolls for 50 years. That whole thing has been a cluster and they charge you more based on the volume of traffic on the non toll portion.

Saves very little time. Should have been brought back into 385 way below where

1

Aug 13, 2023, 12:36 PM

it was. Grey Court area instead of Simpsonville.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We do it from Columbia area.

2

Saves very little time, if any depending on traffic. However, it's a MUCH easier drive because there aren't a lot of cars on the road. 85 can be a pain, this is simpler. We got the pass (costs $5, and they knock 10% off the tolls I think) and that helps.

Clearly I don't do it every day since I don't live there but we like it for the trips up and back.
