We can't expect emotionally fragile people to think clearly on it

The assassination attempt, that is. That's because emotionally fragile people always want someone to blame immediately; they want heads to roll and they don't care who it is as long as--well, as long as it's enough heads. I don't visit the Mange much anymore, but I imagine they don't handle Clemson losses very rationally or well; probably the ones who were claiming ESPN was out to get us in the past.
Trumpers aren't good with logic or facts. The ones here either repeat blatant lies that duped them or, even worse, they post lies that they know are lies. Tom and Keowee, for example, lie on purpose where people like Murph are easily fooled.
So, let's just analyze the stupid claims they're already making over this attempt:
-The Dems are behind the assassination attempt. More specifically, this administration.
Why this is stupid: So, Pres. Biden, who has access to all of the CIA, NSA, and everything else he could possibly access to pick out the baddest of our most badass assassins... sends these two crazies?
-The Secret Service is on it.
Why this is stupid: Yeah, they're so in on it that they engaged with the suspect before Trump even got to him and apprehended him. Don't you think if they were in on it they would have, you know, let Trump get there to the shooter?
-It was a last minute golf outing and they guy knew Trump would be there!
Why this is stupid: The man was camped out for 12 hours.
-He couldn't have worked alone!
Why this is stupid: Yeah, he could have. Maybe he didn't, but you don't have any facts or logic to show otherwise.
-Hateful Dem rhetoric drives these shooters!
Why this is stupid: First, that completely destroys your argument that the Dems or the Biden admin is in on this. Because you can't have one and have the other. They're either hired assassins or they're crazies driven by rhetoric. Which one is it?
This is Trumpers creative way of calling for people to be punished for speech against Trump. That's it.
Meanwhile, since they also lack empathy with their emotional fragility, they ignore that Trump has spent years calling people enemies of America and making up lies about groups of people to the point that his violent crazy supporters (and he knows they will) take despicable actions against those people.
If you cry about this rhetoric because, boo hoo, people are mean about Trump, and then you've repeated his BS lies about Haitian immigrants without caring what happens to them, you're a piece of garbage with no capacity for empathy.
And if you especially ever cracked jokes about "Mean Tweets," kindly sit TF down if you're going to start crying about rhetoric against Trump now.
I don't think speech drives crazies to commit acts of violence, but if it does, then the Trumpers on this board are far more responsible for it in this country than anyone who ever called their fat idol Hitler.
-The entire left--and by left, I idiotically mean anyone who doesn't adore Trump--wants him dead!
Why this is stupid: The overwhelming majority of this nation, regardless of what BS a politician spouts, doesn't want our politicians assassinated because we understand how detrimental that would be to America. So grow up.

I agree Biden, the government nor secret service is in on it. He’d been dead long ago if the government was in on it.
I don’t think it’s far fetched to believe someone told the dude Trump will be there on that particular day, and it may not have been anything nefarious.
For me, I know I’m not jumping on a plane to fly across the states and then just hope the person is there. But that’s just me. (And I’m still assuming his home is in Hawaii. As I stated last night, maybe we’ll find out he been in Florida for days which will 100% change my mind on this) then again, I don’t totally understand mental illness, maybe he just happened to almost get “lucky” and do what he intended to do.

At the least, he should have clearly been on the fbi’s radar.
(But stating that will get me labeled a conspiracy theorist in todays climate 😉)

Most importantly, you can never question the FBI. If you do that probably means you're a white supremacist.

fiction:
-The entire world will shut down over a virus (in an election year) -The government has a UFO task force -A major party will promote a candidate to the presidency of the United States without them winning a single primary -There will be not one, but two assassination attempts on a former president and presidential candidate
It's a wonder more people haven't lost their minds, I don't think conspiracy theories are that crazy anymore just based on the sheer amount of craziness happening in the world.

If we run into one with genuine ideology, you'll know. Start counting up nations whose very existence could well be threatened by Donald Trump's re-election, and you'd see there's a startling number of them, starting with Ukraine, but also including Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Moldova, Poland, Germany, France, England, South Korea, Taiwan, Iran...do I need to go on? Because I can.
A professional with genuine ideology is going to be on the operating end of a Barrett M82 a thousand yards out - this guy was apparently within 600, and the first got within 150! - or worse, they're going to use killer drones that can come from miles away.
Donald made a spectacular number of dangerous - and potentially desperate - enemies his first go-around. And those countries aren't going to passively sit on their hands and wait for The End, at least some of them are going to take pre-emptive action and try to save themselves.
This almost certainly isn't the last one. If Donald wins the election - or even looks like he's in a position to actually win - there is almost zero chance the world will allow him to take office on January 20th.
I genuinely fear for us all if that happens. WWI started when the Archduke Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated, and that'd be small potatoes compared to what would happen if someone successfully takes out Donald Trump.
Pray for Donald's safety, people. We do not need to see what kind of beast gets unleashed if Donald dies.

Certainly if a country is identified in that situation it would most definitely be an act of war.

My main question is, how did he know Trump would be there that day? He either got lucky or someone close to Trump betrayed him.
The first assassination attempt has many more questions than this one. The main one being, how was a kid able to get an AR past secret service and local law enforcement and take a good shot?

The motorcade isn't exactly discreet. He could have just been very persistent and waited, and someone that crazy would think like that.
But I'll entertain the idea someone told him from the inside, which then begs these questions:
-Why rely on this nutjob to accomplish it? How did someone on the inside connect with this one?
-Who is to say it's not someone in Trump's team? How do we know someone really close to him isn't betraying him?
EDIT: I accidentally typed "is exactly" instead of "isn't exactly," which changes what I meant significantly.

As I said above, someone could have relayed to him Trump would be there but wasn’t anything nefarious by it.
Could be intelligence from a different country. I don’t know just spit balling.
I’d say anyone that would attempt to kill a presidential candidate is a nut job.

Now, this makes more sense, and honestly, looking at Ukraine is valid. I think quozzel first predicted that.
Trump will hand Ukraine over to Russia on a silver platter. At some point, you have to wonder what measures they'll take to prevent that.

I was actually thinking Iran. Since dude wrote a book giving Iran permission to assassinate Trump.
And since our government has intelligence that says Iran wants him dead.

If you know he is in Mar a Lago, there is a 90% chance he will be at his golf club nearby. Trump does very little work or campaigning, he golfs most of the time. It would be more surprising if he wasn’t at the golf course Sunday.

https://www.reuters.com/world/us/what-we-know-about-reported-suspect-behind-apparent-trump-assassination-attempt-2024-09-16/
The FBI was aware of this man. He was convicted of possessing an unregistered automatic weapon in 2002 and was harshly punished with probation. The FBI was tipped off years later that Routh, a felon, had a firearm.
When the tipster was no longer forthcoming, they dropped the case.
Several things I'm taking out of this. First one would think illegal possession of a fully automatic weapon should get you more of a sentence than probation. Yes, folks, one can possess a fully automatic weapon although it's costly and a burdensome process.
Second, it seems our law enforcement while having a radar is seemingly content to make an ID, a cursory investigation and then close the case. This is working so well that perhaps we can lift the sex offender process that keeps at least loose tabs on this subset of criminals.
Third, the status quo protection that Trump is getting must be ramped up to what Biden is getting. I would suggest the same for Harris. We are in a hyper polarized environment and have to do all that is humanly possible to prevent another attempt on either candidate. Neither attempt on Trump should have been remotely possible if the Secret Service was doing its job.
Lastly, does any emotionally stable person here believe that it's reasonable to consider that this was all staged by the Trump team? That idea was floated yesterday.
Everybody needs to take a deep breath and let the facts come in, but both potential assassins appear to have wildly fluctuating poltical ideology, both if they had been successful had telegraphed that they were unstable and potentially dangerous. For now, I don't see a conspiracy, but just incompetence enabling nut jobs ? potentially influenced by political rhetoric to try to kill Trump.
If the two attempts had been on Harris, I think we would be seeing a much more aggressive look under the hood at what is going on with the Secret Service and we would have multiple agents fired and questions asked about what support had/has been granted.

Years after the gun, this guy wrote a book referring to assassinating Trump. At that point, his every move should have been watched. At least in my opinion.

Resources are not an issue I guess. How much manpower would be required to watch every move of every individual that "shows up on the radar"? Just asking.
