Remember when 12-1 ND got in after CU

Bullied and ran them out of Charlotte? I’m just saying we got a CHANCE. I’d rather participate in CFP and lose than to just say we ain’t good enough

That same ND team beat us that year in South Bend. I would love to see us in the playoffs this year but I will admit that I don’t think we are one of the best 4 teams in the country right now. All we can do is play our best and win and hope for a shot.

he’d fire our staff and bench DJ for a shaky looking freshman, lose to UL and UNC and maybe USuCk too as a demoralized and confused roster tries to get its bearings.
Luckily he’s a leader and knows these idiots are just noise.

We were missing key players that year in South Bend, we weren't in Charlotte. I don't see us making the playoffs after being down 28-0 in the 4th qtr to an unranked ND and eventually losing 35-14, last td garbage time. That being said, I'd rather get blown out in the CFP than crush someone in a meaningless bowl game.

We wouldn't be in a meaningless bowl game. Likely the Orange bowl, and potentially against Alabama.

I don't think anyone disputes a 1 loss team can get into the CFP, it happens all the time.
The problem with Clemson in 2022 is that most of their best wins aren't that dominant, and they got their doors blown off by ND.
Say Clemson wins the rest of their games including the ACC championship by close margins. Making the CFP is nice but so is being competitive in CFP. Based on what I've seen through 10 games I don't think this team would be competitive.

I disagree, I think we stomp Miami and South Carolina, and then squeak by a top 10 UNC team, prob 35-31. Looking at it objectively, are we better than Georgia, Ohio State, TCU, or Tennessee? I’m not sure. I think our defense can be championship caliber, but our wide receivers are lacking, and DJ is just too inconsistent

Your last sentence "I think our defense can be championship caliber, but our wide receivers are lacking, and DJ is just too inconsistent" is why I don't believe.
I'm not sure UT or TCU have elite defense, but they both have superior offenses. UGA has both. I do expect to win out, but we'll definitely have to play better than we've played all year to beat UNC.

it's more than the 1 loss argument

it's 28-0 @ Notre Dame. the points we scored were the same type of points we disregard other teams scoring during the 4th
our coaching staff having personell meltdown when putting in Cade and taking him out (he should have started the 2nd qrt) . the run game getting stuffed. the defense getting run all over
we were exposed . we are not elite (we have the talent but have poor middle tier management )

I think OP's argument is that

the 2020 ND team with 1-loss who made the playoff was also destroyed by us in the ACC Championship Game. That game was 34-3 in the 4th quarter and for the game, they were outgained 541-263. There's a large argument to be made that ND was proven to not be elite in that ACC Championship game, and that it was already proven they had no chance to win in the Playoff.
That ND team did have a win against Clemson on their resume', but it was a win against Clemson without Trevor Lawrence, and it took them 2 OTs.
Ultimately, who ends up in the top-4 will probably be reliant on how other conferences shake out (does TCU finish undefeated?, does LSU win the SEC?, does USC run the table) and how we look down the stretch. We need to play some complete games and look dominant for once this season. Also, If it ends up that we're like 6 and UNC is top-10 when we face them in the ACC Championship game, and other things go our way, we could find ourselves in the top-4 at the end. We don't control our own destiny though because of that terrible loss.

It has little to do whether we are good enough or not but rather whether the committee thinks there are 4 better teams.

IF we get past UNC, we would likely face UGA in the CFP or Bama in the Orange Bowl. Personally, I think the Orange Bowl would be the more entertaining and competitive game.

The frustrating part all year for me is I know we are much more talented and a much better team than we have shown on the field. I also can't believe we really haven't been able to put together even 1 game where all three phases performed for all 4 quarters. NCS game was probably the closest we have come.
The talent and the potential are there but I keep waiting for the execution to catch up. Maybe we are a late bloomer and it comes out over the next 3 games. I sure hope so...

I think we have to face the fact that the talent is not as good as years past. At QB, at WR, and in the secondary. In the past we have had some amazing world-class talent - TL, DW, Tee, Big Mike, Nuke, Simmons, Boulware, etc. We have some excellent college players now, but not at the elite level we have enjoyed before.

Only played 6 games? Yeah I'm sure it's comparable to this year.
BTW they were 10-1; fewer games were played that year.

down in the record book.
Means we are elite. Maybe not as elite as the other 3.... but it confirms we are elite for that year.
I don't see us making it this year, but I would rather get in and lose than win a non-CFB bowl game. Hypothetically speaking, of course.
I simply don't trust us to win the next 3 in a row. Too wobbly. We are having a very good season, but I feel a major disappointment somewhere before bowl selection.
