Who have said for 6 years we don’t ever get players out of it, despite signing multiple players from it, suddenly imply they were right and Dabo has changed because one portal player visits Clemson.

I guess that fulfills multiple transfers. 🤣 We need impact players to build depth. Can’t argue with Colorados success. Can’t argue with Indiana’s success. Can’t argue that every playoff team (sans Clemson) since 2020 has impact transfers including a minimum 15% of their roster. Transfers build success. I HATE NIL and the portal but we HAVE to use it to keep up. Why is this so hard to understand?!

I’ll go a step further, High school teams do it. I was recruited from a 1A team to a 4A team in NC. One guy from my school took the deal and the head coach drove two hours every day to drive him back and forth to school. Yes, it was illegal. But it happened. I didn’t want to leave the school I grew up in and all my friends. There was pay involved and the promise of higher profile as a 4A player at a relevant school.

But that’s not the point being made. The point is posters have said Dabo doesn’t use it, despite proof he has, then use a visit, which is not proof he is using it, as evidence he has changed. It’s bizarre.

Explain how Clemson was the only school (beyond service academies), in all of college football, to not take a transfer player if it was not the result of Dabo's refusal to use same? if 30% of teams did not take a portal player, then fine, but when we are the ONLY one? I don't buy the argument of "we tried and failed." It's rather: we didn't try at all.

The complaint is he hasn’t used it to feel holes in the roster which is true. Using it for two backup qbs that were like 4th in line is a cop out and you know it.

Technically, arguing for transfer portal use on the basis of Colorado and Indiana's success while not including the "success" of FSU, Purdue, Mississippi State, etc., is confirmation bias by placing greater weight on teams that did use the transfer portal and had success this year in order to support your hypothesis that transfer portal use is associated with success.

Well that’s a different argument regarding whether it could help. There are many examples of schools that suggest it could help and it makes sense to use all available resources to improve the roster of your team.
Whether it could help is not the same as definitively stating that the transfer portal use improves team success since it worked for Colorado and Indiana. Given 130 FBS teams used the transfer portal there is no control group of adequate sample size to provide efficacy that transfer portal use leads to improved team performance since Clemson is the only non-military non-transfer school. And if you compare to Clemson, there are more transfer using schools that performed worse than Clemson than better than Clemson.

It's not the 3 or so Grads transfers that came to Clemson as backup QBs, it's also the multiple players recruited from the portal that just said no. Everyone seems to forget about all the O Linemen contacted and asked to visit last year along with a couple other positions contacted that also just said no.

Apples and oranges.
Previously unsuccessful programs and those who have no history of top recruiting can benefit greatly from the portal, especially for 1 year (see FSU). That is way different than an established successful program like Clemson. As for Colorado's "success", they have never made the CFP in a weak Big 12 conference. Indiana made it for this one year because of a weak schedule and being in the Big. Let's see how they do against top competition in the playoff.
Yes, there are impactful transfers at major programs but these are top programs even without any portal transfers. Using your numbers 85& of their roster are non portal players that are highly touted recruits, and are enough to likely get them in the playoffs without the 1-2 portal transfer starters. These are also programs that have very little commitment to the players already in their program.
I'm not sure the building of depth theory works either. Yes, theoretically, you bring in an impact starter and the previous starter becomes great depth. However, since playing time is the biggest reason kids enter the portal, that previous starter is very likely to leave to get PT somewhere else. So has your depth really improved?
I'm not against the portal at all. Just challenging some of the assumptions that many make about the impact of the portal on our program.

No, I understand your point: posters who claim Dabo doesn't use the portal will lose their minds when he successfully uses it this year, which is consistent with his prior use of the portal-- which said posters don't acknowledge when they incorrectly imply he doesn't use it.
I am saying the argument he "used" the portal, by way of taking to grad players with prior connections to the program, is a bad faith argument. Say the "portal posters" are the equivalent of your wife asking you to help out with the chores more, and you respond by saying: "I do help with the chores, last week I put my coffee mug up!" You tell me if that's a good faith response. Taking two grad player/clip board holders as evidence of "using the portal" is the the same as putting up a cup and saying "I help with chores." In fact, Dabo was the only coach who did not even use the portal at all this past offseason.
He doesn't use it to acquire legitimate talent who will play, which is what the "portal posters" are asking him to do. If he does it this offseason, it will be a first.

Yeah, this is a semantical argument about the definition of "use." I understand your point: he has "used" the portal to take grad players who didn't play. I believe "using" the portal implies taking players with the intent of obtaining talent who will actually play, like the rest of the entire college football world does.
Also, no matter how you define "use", Dabo was the only coach not to "use" the portal, at all, last year. The only one. Maybe you and Dabo are right in the long run. But I have noticed a drop in the on-field product, and I cannot help but think its the result of fighting every other college with one arm tied behind our backs, which we tie ourselves, and then argue that we are actually "using" both arms (you just can't see the other, its on the side line, holding a clipboard)

The question is how will you pivot if the shiny new portal team doesn't win the national championship, or maybe doesn't even win 10 games, or the ACC championship, and ends up in the Gator Bowl?
That sort of thing might put your credibility at risk.
