We absolutely should turn Taiwan into a fortress

Sep 3, 2022, 8:37 AM

This is in the category of "a good beginning" for me.

You know a maritime blockade is probably coming next, so the US Navy needs to figure out how to keep Taiwan open for business.

If we commit to keeping Taiwan free, we can...if Taiwan is truly committed to it, anyway. Taiwan is an island, and it's an island of 24+ million people. Put missiles and artillery on every square mile of it and build an air interdiction system that makes Iron Dome look precious...if the Taiwanese really commit to their own defense and decide they won't be ruled, they won't be.

I only skimmed his post but I got the gist of it. Navy, aka The Naval Academy has a weapon who comes from Taiwan and the OP thinks he could end up transferring to Clemson if Dabo approves of his character. And, China may not like it, bc they are trying start American football over there.

Biden has his hands full trying to get this guy kicked out of Annapolis so Clemson doesn’t have a chance.

But no, we’re not going to play over there in Taiwan. Don’t be silly.

Why don’t we just go ahead and start the nuclear WWIII and get it over with. We should leave that part of the world alone but we need to become more independent first. We shouldn’t be relying on Taiwan or China or Mideast oil or any other country for anything. If we got back to producing our own goods and energy we wouldn’t need to care what happens over there.

Rant over.

You turn a blind eye to communist countries taking over democratic ones and eventually the us is left standing alone. Ill let you guess how that story ends.

Some of you guys need to visit P&R!

Anyway, I'm embarrassed to say I agree with Quo <img border="> and think a naval blockade could be next for China and Taiwan. Didn't read the link, though.

We will have to have a plan to escort each individual ship (or group of ships) and not be baited into firing the first shot. We will have our carriers nearby in the event China fires the first shot. At that point, it could get ugly.

Can we really defend against low-flying anti-ship missiles? If China believes their missiles will work, they may decide this is the time to sink the Pacific fleet, endure some damage of their own, but claim Taiwan back.

They will hedge their bets that we won't attack mainland China, and I do not believe we would, even if they sink one of our carriers.

IDK... I think the USA would establish and maintain air dominance (without any air combat evolving) in such a blockade exercise, which pretty much guarantees any Chinese ships in the ocean will be sunk if bullets start flying.

If there is a blockade, my money says the US responds to escort and no shots are fired. We do this for a few weeks and the Chinese Navy goes home.

I couldn't agree more.

It's not like Taiwan is Madagascar ... Taiwan is of strategic importance to us.

The carbon footprint of that endeavor would have a very low ESG rating. Not gonna happen.

Sep 3, 2022, 11:55 AM

Haha. True.

Climate zealots would love to hear my son tell stories of having to go to the tanker to help them reduce weight so they can land...the fighters will fill up and then go off supersonic for a bit and come back and take off more fuel. Rinse and repeat. Going supersonic is just like driving faster in your car when you get worse mileage, but in this case it's like 5 to 10x worse! No kidding.
