The announcers were very complimentary toward Clemson Fans for not spilling out of the stands or throwing objects onto the field! They also lashed out at Carolina players who were not even in the game , rushing the field to add to the melee! I can only imagine what would have happened had this fight occurred in Williams-Brice!! The National Guard would have had to escort Clemson out of Columbia!!

That was almost 20 years ago. Unfortunately it would probably be worse just about anywhere today.

I was at the game and had a very similar takeaway about the crowd. There was a lot of booing. It was good to see that we didn't wanna put up with that crap - from either side.

totally embarrassing for both schools ... I think we learned a lesson hopefully. Anyway these two schools do not care for one another.

We certainly did not react properly but coots clearly instigated the whole event and turned it into a brawl. That’s why I always had a problem with us getting equal punishment.

can’t forget 98lb Lou Holtz in the middle of players three times his weight trying to break up the brawl. Meanwhile, Whitehurst, sans clipboard, strolled over to the Clemson sideline and was conversing with T Bowden. Both wise enough not to get in the middle of that fight.

One image that is etched in my mind’s eye is #5 Yusef with the Gamecock helmet raised in hand to the Clemson crowd - “forever to thee” indeed!

Noon kickoff, gorgeous fall day. Kinda early in day to smack talk even against your rival. Then the classless coots start #### at the bottom of the hill run down. Then Dunham knocks coot into next year and the route was on.
