It is November so - Marine Corps Marathon ?
Over 30,000 lined up this year in 2025.
Marines have complete charge, and it is perfect, flawless. It leaves Arlington Cemetery and races over all the government areas, kinda awesome.
The course is mostly flat, but 26 miles is a long race.
I have done it a dozen times. Below are photos from my first trip. My time "from then" would have had me 115th this year. Then I was "maybe" 3000th. It was a different era.
My club of cops (LERA) stayed at the Watergate Hotel.
Reed Sercy and Steve Brown are in this photo and were excellent Marathoners who had experience. These guys were the real deal as to Marathoners.
Also with us were cops Ritch, Alan, Bob, Rob, Danny, Dale, Robert, ? -> all at the Watergate - all ready to line up. I think all were also Military Vets.
How did our LERA (LAW Enforcement Running Association) TEAM of older guys do? We were 16th, so a good day for old fat donuts eating cops.
Bride's first Marathon. She ran this time by mistake, did great, and returned a couple years later to "kill it". Here she is closing hard after 26 miles coming up Iwo Jima Hill.
I was the elder cop, but had a good day to lead the team that day with a 2:46.
Cops fueled with donuts can surprise.

Early on they discovered I could not be trusted with blue lights and a siren and took those away.
I am an expert at dead folks.

One morning I was headed to a meeting in donwtown Houston. One of the mounted police was nearby. He observed a car running a red light and proceeded to catch it at the next intersection red light, had them pull over, and he wrote out a ticket while on horseback.

I could probably outrun a cop if my Rhuematoid Arthritis isn't flaring up. My young legs still work if my body cooperates.

Some yes, but you might have trouble with some.
The real fun comes if they catch up and the battle begins. Who will "walk" away?
In my day cops were not social workers -> violent guys home from the war.
I used to tease the K-9 cops (not the incredible dogs, the handlers).
Give me 5 minutes and they had no chance of catching me.
The deal is the dogs are on a lease and limited by the handler.
In an hour I could cover ten miles, the handlers maybe 3.
