Watching the TN and WF Game

last night, TN and WF were in the 4th day of the Regional and TN brought in a Freshman pitcher that had not thrown a pitch in the Regional. His first 3 Ks were completed with a pitch at 101 mph, 99 mph and 100 mph and he shutdown WF when they were starting to rally. According the game announcers he is one of 11 SEC pitchers that have thrown 100 mph+ in a game this season.
Just saying that would be a nice option.

Yeah, hear what you're saying but I agree with saddis56, it'd be a nice option. Obviously velo isn't everything, but it's more indicative of the quality talent, and that's what we need. It's not like these other teams are all private and have more resources. The question is why does it appear that we can't get the best players...
But watch the other teams. They really do have more skilled athletes than we do.
Our softball team is a great example. Look at the athletes we had our first 3 years and compare them to the ones this year. We looked more like Oklahoma and Tennessee... and the results showed that.

Leo mazzone was greatest pitching coach ever...ask him. He took bums like smoltz, Glavine, Maddox, Avery and turned them into serviceable pitchers nobody else could.

Yeah no matter how hard you throw, you have to throw strikes and keep a batter off balance. Not only did the kid last night get his first 3 strike outs at 101, 99, and 100 mph, he set them up with mid 80s off speed pitches and a low 90s slider. Seeing an 85 mph off speed pitch and then a 100 mph fastball with some movement makes a big difference
