Untie his hands

Watson is hamstrung by the play calling. You can since it in his post game interview. I think Morris goes for the jugular. Winning is certainly the most import goal, and we won, but I think that this game could have been put away early. The play calling changed after we got the lead, which allowed them back into the game. I think, on the verge of giving the game away.
I don't think Watson is real happy about it. I don't buy into the excuses that balls could go through receivers hands, dropped and tipped which could lead to interceptions. If that is your line of thinking, why even throw the ball at all. You cannot play not to lose, or you will lose. If Kearse doesn't cause that fumble on the two yard line. We lose the game. I don't think you simply turn the offense on and off like a light switch. ND had all the momentum in the fourth quarter, and turn that momentum around with the offense going back to what it was doing in the first half would not have been easy. Keep your foot on the pedal.
Like I said before the goal is winning. I think by doing what they did, they hurt much more than our chance of winning. They hurt our rankings, and Deshaun's Heisman hopes. I'm not trying to put those a head of winning, but they are intertwined. If we keep playing like that we are eventually going to lose.
Turn him loose!!!

There was a female tennis star that was asked if she ever let up when she had a big lead, and she responded that she kept the pedal down the entire match and never let up. She argued that if she let up, her opponent would seize the momentum and defeat her. I wish our team would take that stance to avoid us old guys having panic attacks.

I totally agree with being aggressive all the way. Otherwise, just recruit average QBs ( think Cole Stoudt ) and make those conservative calls. I hope that DeShaun goes to his coaches and asks to be given the green light to use his skills to make 1st downs and score points. Playing not to lose will get us beat!

Risk vs. reward.
Risk of turnovers was high due to conditions - wind, rain, slick field, all other aspects of the game.
We cannot get a 1st down up the middle when we have to have it with our current OL with good opposition. Hat on hat - imposing your will on the opposition - we still have work to do.
Bottom line we won!! Have to move on. Learn and improve.

The OP's point is that we got lucky

being lucky is definitely needed sometimes but it's being required against the only two decent teams we have beaten this year.
The play-calling as been downright scary conservative after we get a lead. I get it for this past game and the weather but like the OP said, we were BOTH playing in it! How does a freshman throw all over the field against us yet we can't because of weather?

Yeah I think Watson is a playmaker and they need to cut him loose if we end up having to play Baylor or TCU it could get ugly quick if we don't take shots down field I think Cain will be forced to step up

There will be games were we need to score more than 30 to win. Maybe we'll see our OCs shine in that moment.

I'm not necessarily saying shots, we did take a couple of shots. But, taken shots is a lower percentage type play. I'm saying take the high percentage stuff, like we did in the first two drives, and move the chains. Don't just run three times up the middle and punt, three or four times in a row.

In the 4th quarter they had the wind at their backs whereas we would have been throwing into it.

You could tell that he wasn't happy with the designed QB draw play later in the game.
