Anyone up for a TigerNet weight loss challenge? I need some extra motivation

like a weekly check-in to monitor progress. Not like a total pounds loss competition because everyone is different and it won't be logical to lose a large number of pounds for many folks. If this works, each person gives their current weight and the amount they want to lose with an ending date set for the first home football game. Anyone who meets their personal goal gets a Treasured Post from me ( I think I have enough TNet Coins accumulated to be safe - prove me wrong!) and the satisfaction of reaching their goal. I went from close to 220 about 3 years ago down to a current 200 but can't seem to push myself to go any lower. My goal would be only 15 more pounds to 185 in those 3 months but going below 200 has been impossible so far. With my history I am likely to gain weight in the next 3 months. Any takers on the challenge? Set your goal here. You can call me stupid if you wish.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Sadly, the last time I weighed as little as 185 was literally 52 years ago,

before I entered Clemson as a Freshman in 1972. Once I hit Harcombe Commons, saw all the doughnuts, soft serve ice cream, and unlimited "seconds" on my seven day meal ticket, the "Freshman Fifteen" was on! They would be joined by a lot of their cousins in the years to come. I topped out at 355 some years ago.

Although I am still considered Morbidly Obese, I now maintain at around 290-295 lbs. That is, except for that horrific episode on Super Bowl Sunday Night, where I puked and dry heaved my way from 298 to 284 lbs in one 24 hour span, with the 24 Hour Bug From H.ell. I certainly do not recommend that as a weight loss plan.

I lost those 20 pounds by just having smaller portions at meals. no evening snacks, and an increased activity level with no real additional exercise plan. Somehow lost the motivation to stick to it.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Smaller portions is pretty much how I got gradually from 355 down to 295, which

on how I had success. I had been hovering around 200lbs on a 5’ 7” frame. I have been on a weight training program for a long time. That never really seemed to change my weight even-though I train 6 days a week. I purchased a Peloton and started the intermittent fasting program of not eating for 16 hrs/day. Over the course of 6 months I have lost 25lbs of body fat. The fasting seems to be the trick and has worked very well for me. I understand those that are diabetics have to be careful with this program. Hope you find something that works for you!!

Go Tigers!!

Retired 15 months ago and was 240 lbs on a 6’5” frame. Now I’m at 210 lbs and what worked for me was eat like a king in the morning, eat like a prince at lunch the eat like a pauper at supper ( most of the time). Along with a 1&1/2 to 2 mile walk at 3.5 mph speed 5 days a week ( along with morning stretching and 20 minutes of light weights ) and now feel better than I have in a long time. Stay after and strive for your goal in a steady as you go routine to hit your goal. Remember, it’s better to wear out than rust out. Good luck.

Sign me up brother. I actually started cutting out sugars and carbs about a month and a half ago and went from 233 to now 217. But I’ve been stuck at 217 for about a week. But that’s also zero extra exercise. I do work outside and move around all day so it’s not like I work at a desk. But yea, I’m gonna hit 200 by 8/31. At least I hope.

I think low carb is the way to go! Started January of 2023 with a goal of losing

30 lbs. Started going to the gym five days a week and only lost about 5 lbs in four months. Decided it was time to change my diet, so I cut out all sweets and starchy carbs...no bread, potatoes or rice. By mid July 0f last year, I had lost thirty more lbs! I have maintained that weight for over 10 months now, even though I now have some ice cream and occasional other dessert and occasionally some bread.

The best thing about low carb, I don't worry about caloric intake, and I eat plenty of fatty meats like bacon, baby back ribs, chicken wings and hamburger steak!

Don't be afraid of fat! Fat doesn't make you fat! It's sugar and carbs that make you fat! And stay away from the seed(vegetable) oils! You can bet that anything fried you eat in a restaurant has been fried in a seed oil!

I'm already on board except my goal isn't exactly to lose weight. My goal is to be healthier and losing weight will be the fruit of that labor.

My goal for the next few weeks is to create a baseline of activity that I can build on. I sit at a desk mostly so my baseline goal is to get 10,000 steps in daily.

My baseline goal for my diet is to skip the burgers and fries for lunch and eat a salad instead (just at lunch) I'm not really a breakfast person so I've been fasting from 6pm each night until lunch time the next day and I cut out beer and went to only water.

I'm down for a goals check just. We can post our step count each week if you guys would be into a little friendly competition.

Biggest pointers for you are to stay active, eat small portions and drink plenty of good water. Oh and getting at least 6 hours of rest a night will not hurt. After a certain age we should not go crazy in the gym we just need to do enough to get a good sweat going while getting that heart rate up . That's my two cents.

I am 6 feet tall. I weighed 200 lbs. I had never weighed that much. I decided to lose 40 lbs. SO as to weighed 160, which is the weight I like. I have always been thin. I am 81 yrs old. When I got married at age 24, I weighed 125 lbs and wore a size 29 waist and 14 1/2 neck size shirt. 14 would fit better but were too hard to find. So we're the 29 waist and a 28 would fit.

I have kept the weight between 160-165 from the 200 and it has been 9 months. I only eat 1 meal a day. Few carbs and very few sweets and no snacks. Lean meats and lots of veggies. No exercise.

But it takes lots of will power, esp. regarding the sweets. I may eat a piece of cake, pie or cookie once a week. Diet soda and water.

My diet was and still is to count calories. When I want to lose weight, I eat less than 500 calories per day. I try not to exceed 700 calories per day to maintain weight. You just have to cut out the high calories. With Google, it is easy to check calories on anything.

Already over the past month have gotten back in the gym doing lighter weight full body routines with compound exercises where possible 2 or 3 times a week. And the walking about 2 miles 3X a week at least.

Final/maintain goal is sub190.

So first game is how many weeks away? 12 weeks from this Saturday? 12*2.5 = 30. 248-30 = 218

218 is the goal

Maff corrrected during edit.

I peaked at 261 on a 5’8” frame about a year and a half ago. In shape, I’m 190, so I’m not a small dude.

I tried diet after diet and nothing worked. Couldn’t stick to anything. I discovered radical fasting and she’s 41 pounds. Now sitting at 220ish and looking to go lower. want to be 205/210 by game 1.

I cut out carbs and I do multi day, water only fasts. Once your body stops being pissed off at you for not giving it carbs (withdrawal symptoms are a bish) and it starts feeding on your own fat, weight falls off. If you can survive the first 6-12 hours, your cravings go away and you feel amazing. The overall health benefits are insanely good.

load up on carbs 1-2 times a week, seriously, eat all the cake and donuts you like. Then switch to a keto diet in between. It tricks your body into burning excess fat, and you will not have to starve yourself. Moderate exercise is also important, a brisk 20 minute walk at least 3 times a week will help tremendously.
