U of Washington has scheduled an emergency meeting tonight..

Aug 3, 2023, 1:30 PM

Washington is now holding a "special meeting" tonight. Arizona/ASU also are, and are expected to vote to join the Big 12.

"FYI: UW’s Board of Regents have scheduled a “special meeting” for tonight at 9 pm. The meeting will include an executive session, though I’m told no action will be taken."

Bret McMurphy also reported that The Big Ten has already "cleared" Oregon and Washington to join once they figure out the numbers. It looks like tomorrow could potentially be the final nail in the coffin for the Pac 12. The expansion of the Big Ten past 16 will also push the SEC to move. The chaos continues to ramp up.

"Friendly reminder: Big Ten “cleared & vetted” Oregon & Washington as B1G members if it makes financial sense,
@ActionNetworkHQ
reported last year. Last August, Oregon & B1G met in Chicago, UW & B1G met in New York. They are set to go - if B1G & network partners figure out money"

PAC likely dies tonight/tomorrow...

Aug 3, 2023, 1:36 PM

with Big12 and B1G adding teams, the reality is the revenue gap will only grow even more over time.

If that rumor is true...

... then I would suspect that the board will be given the details tonight about the ins and outs of moving to B1G. Then they will schedule a public meeting to cast the actual vote, that they actually agree on tonight.

Each state has different rules about how universities conduct their business, but I suspect Washington follows that basic guideline.

PAC 12 becomes PAC 4?

9 left now.

If UW and Oregon go to B1G, that makes 7.
If AZ, AZ ST and Utah go to Big 12, that leaves 4.

Heck, maybe Cal and Stanford go to B1G and that would leave only OR ST and Wazzou.

Beavers and Cougars would be instant PAC champ contenders***

I've seen multiple reports that the Big Ten isn't interested in Cal or Stanford. That makes sense as neither bring any viewership in revenue sports. It would be interesting to see where the B1G goes. Is four west coast teams enough? Do they start to look at ACC teams after Oregon and Washington? We'll likely know soon.

If the B1G adds four West Coast schools it makes sense they'll want to add four East Coast schools. Clemson, FSU, UNC, and UVA?

Cal and Stanford can go find their own conference. I know the B1G is salivating at them academically. But the B1G is an athletic conference. Which now means a football conference. There are serious questions about Stanford (especially) and Cal’s dedication to football. Even talk of the possibility of them dropping football if things keep moving to a pay for play or employees type environment

No the Big12 would just gobble everyone up leftover in the PAC 12 once Washington and Oregon bolt for the Big10

Oregon and UW could split a Big 10 TV share (each get half of 100 million) for a few years and be better off than staying in the PAC. They gone.

Big10 schools don't make $100 million per year***
