two BIG differences
Nov 24, 2013, 10:18 PM
|
|
from last year and this year.
1. S. Carolina's defense was way better last year. I believe quarles is out which may be a huge blow for them. Sammy and Bryant are going to run roughshod on their young secondary. WE TOO DEEP at wide receiver, they wont know what to do. I believe we easily put up 35 on them which leads me to my second point.
2. Their offense blows, but they do have Davis......and what do we do to top running backs? we shut them down (see the BC game). Our defense is vastly improved and I don't see Connor Shaw running his little read option, and if he does I expect our Dline to be in his face and laying him on his ####. if the QB tucks the ball and runs he is fair game...but that's just my opinion.
My prediction Clemson 38 S.Carolina 17
expect to see a white visor with grass stains on it by the third quarter because that hat is going to be on the ground the whole game! GO TIGERS!!!!!

Our Offensive line does not do well vs good D-Lines. I think Boyd will have to have his LSU type game in order for us to win, because he will get abused all game long. I hate to see it but thats just the way it will go. But perhaps if he pulls another Rocky Balboa performance like in last years Chic Fil a game, we not only can win, but his heismen chances go up as well.

Think you can make the case for solid, but probably not "good". Especially if Quarles is out.

A7 is in for a rude awakening if he thinks south carolinas offense sucks and is just mike davis. Ellington, byrd, and anderson are all very good receivers. Also, defense isn't bad either.Quarles will play, more important clowney will play. Atleast the crowd want be a factor and clemson has played some tough road games this year.

We are better equipped to deal with them than Missou was. I think we have a really good offensive game against them.
No idea what to expect with their offense. You just never know with them. They get shut down by good DL and secondary. It'll depend on whether our guys play mean or not.

i would be willing to bet that he's heard some of this talk about his offense not performing against usuc. i think he'll want to show a little fire in his belly, too. i don't envy the people that will have to face his offense.

Hard to draw too much from a game that happened that long ago. We shut down BC's NFL back later on and the GT back that's gashed everyone all year.

That's very optimistic...

Quarles will def play. He, Clowney and Mike Davis all sat out last week to get as close to 100% as possible. I guess coach spurrier likes to rest his vital players when playing an overmatched FCS team. It helps to avoid unnecessary injuries to your starters. Our offense blows??? Come on man. We've struggled at times but shaw has a 20-1 TD to INT ratio. That's not extrapolated, he's thrown 20 TD's to one pick. We have 4 receivers that can make a play when necessary. Ellington, Byrd, Roland and Nick Jones are all capable. Andre Williams is a talented back, but Mike Davis may be the best back in the SEC. A lot of that credit should go to our oline which is maybe the best we've ever had (I realize that doesn't say much, but it's true). Also Brandon Wilds is back full go for the first time since the UCF game. It won't be easy, but I expect we'll win in the trenches like the last few years and get the W. Also doesn't hurt we're playing at home. Hoping for an injury free game for both teams. Should be fun on Saturday night. 1st post on here so I expect at least 5 "Tell 'em Coot" responses, but enjoy the banter.

I think that's a fair assessment

I was at the UF game. Shaw was way off. If he hits those throws he missed it's more like a 35-17 type of final score. Needless to say, I hope he plays that way vs Clemson but of course, that was an anomaly for him. I would agree that SCAR has a clear advantage when on offense. They should put up 30+ if not more easy.
Wasn't really impressed with SCAR D. UF was gashing the D the entire game. The SCAR staff was completely out-coached that game. Dabo/Chad need to work in some new unexpected wrinkles and catch them off guard. We have to establish the run. UF ran away from Clowney to the A/B gap all game and got 6 a pop. If Tajh tries to sit back and pass it's going to be a long day because they will get pressure.

He had concussion symptoms for a day and they held him out for precautions. I'm sorry but ga tech gashed bad teams. Bc has played bad teams. Stats padded against bad defenses mean nothing. Saying that, I'm admitting clemsons defense is not bad, but far from elite enough to assure that you will stop Mike Davis and a healthy Brandon Wilds.

Clemson fans may read this and say to themselves "Hey, their defense is way down and their offense blows, so why are we a 5-6 point underdog to these clowns??" It isn't because Vegas thinks Clemson sucks.
Here is the reality: South Carolina is third in the SEC in total defense (despite being very shaky early in the year), behind only Bama and Florida. Our defense has improved dramatically over the course of the season.
South Carolina is 4th in total offense, and this is balanced between rushing offense (4th) and passing offense (5th). We do not have any glaring weaknesses. Clemson could come in and beat us for sure, but they will have to play a great team.
Give yourselves some credit. Clemson has a very good team. You would not be an underdog if our defense was way down and our offense sucked.

asking how in the world did the sec, forever known as a great defensive league,IN A SPAN OF 1 YEAR, go to being mediocre defensively (at best), to being a good offensive league. seems to me to suggest that the only reason your offenses are good, is because the defenses are bad!

On Andre Williams...it doesn't matter what defenses you play over 200-300 yds rushing in multiple games back to back, that is impressive, he is sstill doing it against D-1 athletes! Just because they not playing SEC teams don't mean that they not playing anybody! Sick of hearing how sorry everybody outside of the SEC is!!!

some good logic in this thread
Nov 25, 2013, 7:07 AM
|
|
But Gamecock fans dont expect clemson fans to admit....to me this game comes down to pressuring Boyd. Scar has been suseptible to the big pass and by pressing recievers at the line to take away screens, that ball is there. Usc is better on both lines and while clemsons d is improved, uscs offense is more dynamic than ever no matter the boards opinion of mike davis or shaws haircut. This will be the closest most even match in 5 years, flip a coin bc this one is a toss up.

the last couple years. the shoe is now on the other foot. we will be able to control the los, and force our will on y'all, thus allowing our offense the opportunities they need to perform even better than they have the last few weeks.
