TV Viewerships numbers for each ACC team (Football)

May 25, 2012, 12:06 PM

I saw this posted on another board. Heath on 107.5 has been preaching for the past week that Clemson is not on the same level as GT, FSU and Miami when it comes to viewership.

That seems hard to believe, where did they get the numbers from?

It seems about right to me, Ga Tech a little high and

UNC a little low - but other than that it is what I would expect. Nobody gives a crap about Duke, Wake and BC. Outside of NC, VA, MD and DC, nobody much cares about UNC, NC State, UVA and MD - they are strictly regional programs. The rest are national programs but yeah Ga Tech gets a heck of bounce from being in the largest college football viewing market in the country.

You have to get on TV to be seen on TV

Yeah, Miami and FSU have more national coverage than we do ... since most of our games are only shown regionally, our numbers are very impressive.

Guess some people are still stuck in the 90's.

Oh yeah, noon kickoffs ... people in Cali are still asleep.

Factor that in ... Neuman! I mean ... Swofford!

the GT and Miami numbers are crazy. What year was that 1990? They draw 45k to their stadium but have 20mil viewers???? That dog won't hunt.

I agree. No way in hades did GT have more viewers than us.

I'm having trouble with the GT numbers. I don't buy it.

ATL market is completely, overwhelmingly, dominated by UGAy.

Screw Calford.

Its not a zero-sum game, there are plenty of folks in ATL

May 25, 2012, 2:02 PM

who watch more than 1 game per Saturday. Atlanta has more college football viewers than any other market in the country including NYC. They are not going to just watch UGA and then turn off the TV for the rest of the weekend.

That said, Ga Tech numbers do look a tad inflated to me. Other than that, I think this really tells the story - Duke, Wake and BC bring nothing to the negotiating table with ESPN. We would be better off without them actually. UNC, UVA , MD and NC State don't hurt us, but don't really help. It is the rest of the conference that has ALL of the real value. Without Clemson, FSU, Miami, Va Tech, and Ga Tech, the ACC couldnt get a contract with ESPN - it would be all Raycom, all the time....

Has to be some kind of wacky extrapolation to come up with GT having that many viewers, especially now. THAT many people watching a Paul Johnson offense, that's classified as cruel & unusual punishment these days.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So if Duke played Miami

May 25, 2012, 2:08 PM

Wouldn't the TV viewers for that one game be about 2 million? How can Duke only have 1 million viewers?
