How so? He doesn’t take any money from the Colorado NIL collective. He gets all of his money from outside deals. Then donates back to the collective for other players.

Because it doesn't fit the narrative that Deion Sanders is creating a culture of selfish entitled, look at me players. None of this should be surprising seeing as Travis Hunter sacrificed and endured criticism to commit to Jackson State originally when he could have went to any big school he wanted to. He always looked at the big picture. And in this case, the big picture of the full health of the team matters more to him when he knows his future is already secure.

Seems like he may have a pretty serious tax problem. Isn't NIL considered income?

I don't think he'll have any trouble paying those taxes. He's going to be a top-5 draft pick in a few months.

It's being reported by numerous sites that Hunter doesn't take money from the NIL collective at Colorado. He seems like a great kid. He has a 4.0 GPA, stays out of trouble, there's zero controversy around him, and he helps teammates with their own NIL situations... I'm a fan.

Nope. It’s time for boosters and hangers on to get out of the business model of College Football.
Player should be compensated by the team, and only by the team. Much like the NFL model.
Could you imagine an independent booster throwing money around and having an impact (+ or -) on an NFL teams roster?
You might say that the teams don’t have enough money, and they need money from the boosters. I say BS.
They can generate five times the current TV revenue if they organize themselves into a NFL model league.

You might be right, and that's how it should be but there are too many contracts

out there within conferences and within tv networks that all stagger to conclusion at different times that it makes it virtually impossible to put this together. It would take some enormous amount of billions upfront to even broach the payoffs to those schools that would be left out of this model. The lawsuits amongst schools would go on for years.
They (and we) are stuff with some makeshift model for years to come.

Hmmm, wouldn't flying 50 of his teammates to the Heistman presentation

be considered "an impermissible benefit" by the NCAA, since it was not available to the general student population?

There's no more rules in college football. The NCAA has no teeth and doesn't discipline anyone anymore. The inmates are running the asylum.

Travis Hunter has huge sponsorship deals with companies

like United Airlines, Celsius, Stanley Brand, etc… He doesn’t need to take money from Colorado’s NIL collective and that money from the sponsorship deals allows him to support his teammates.

Why would you think that coaches don't contribute towards their school's NIL funds? They have more to gain from getting and keeping top talent in their program than anyone!

Whatever you think about Deion, Hunter seems to be a good dude. He's also the first Academic All-American to win the Heisman since Tim Tebow. It's hard to say he didn't make the right decision when he chose to play for Deion instead of going to FSU.
