Transfer Portal

Dec 17, 2021, 6:20 PM

After everything Dabo has said about the portal, all of which is true, will it be harder for us to attract players in the portal?

His ire was mostly directed AT the portal, not the players within. I can’t imagine anyone with half a brain wouldn’t come because of things Dabo highlighted as concerns or negatives about the portal. If they do, we didn’t want that type of player anyways. Dabo likes having players smart enough to graduate.

Roster math and Portal

Dec 17, 2021, 7:46 PM

Tried to research this and getting conflicting information. Assumed that next year we would be targeting 85 scholarship players. Had a recently graduated Big 10 lineman tell me 2 days ago that the NCAA is allowing a special exemption for next year that would allow teams to carry 93 scholarship players. Can anyone explain what the number will be for next year? In addition, we all see that we currently are at 12 on commitments. Some previous posters were working from an expectation after portal exits that we would be working from 59 toward our total. So that would be 61 and counting towards what final number? 85 seems unreachable for D1 additions via the portal and late signees but whatever. Anyone have any clarity on the math and how this will shake out?
