Regarding Riley and Head Coaching....

Garrett's offenses here at Clemson have been okay, but not great. Why is he qualified to be a head coach? Especially when his responsibilities in hiring, planning, coaching, monitoring, developing, and executing the plan during the game will increase ten fold, if not more? He'll have to deal with the portal, NIL, and so much other stuff (media and fan scrutiny) to a greater degree. Dabo came from an even lower position to become interim and then head coach. But CDS was a diamond in the rough. Guess my question is...is CGR a diamond in the rough?

I would say Brent Venables has a new appreciation for what’s involved in stepping up the HC job, especially with all this disruptive change. Under the new professionalized college sports landscape, it’s probably reasonable to ask if a career path thru the coordinator job is really the path needed. I would say it is IF the school has hired a general manager that the HC reports to. That’s an organization where the HC can still focus on their coaching skills.

Good point. Just too much going on today. Maybe if CGR gets hired by a smaller Group of Five school he would be able to handle it. But going straight to a major in this environment is really asking a lot.

I've beenna CGR fan from day one. For a long time I thought I thought I was the only one and must be insane. But you're right. Head coach is a whole different smoke.

I am not so sure he leaves this year. Look at how much Venables’ stock has dropped over things that are not his fault. It was clear OU would be middling in the SEC. The AD is giving him all kinds of trouble. His roster churn is an issue.

The grass may be greener somewhere but few situations would bode well for coaching success. A lot of schools are dysfunctional and may not make or have the resources needed to compete, especially if they have an HC vacancy that was performance related.

Why go through that when you can let Dabo take the heat and you can go drop a hook in Keowee a few times a week?

Last years offense was great. Idk what you were watching. Now year 3 will really show what he’s got. We have all the talent and coaches have watched his tendencies. Can he out coach defensive coordinators that have made adjustments to his offense.

The offense was great against lousy teams, but not against Georgia, Louisville, Usuck, and Texas.

.... just kidding

we are laying duds on the QB recruiting front
and dropping eggs on season openers

our best games are against very mid opponents

. i'm ok if he leaves . he's like in between Wes Goodwin and Tony Elliott

I think Garrett is really smart. But does he have the fire in his belly to scream some, discipline players if needed, and handle a much bigger load?
