RB's are a dime-a-dozen

Jul 26, 2015, 7:54 AM

I heard someone say that yesterday, and there is a lot of truth in that old saying.

Anyone that gets all upset over losing a RB is looking at the game all wrong. I'll take those big uglies every day of the week and defeat teams with the great RB's. The OLine and DLine (AKA - the trenches) is where it's at. If you cannot protect the QB or open holes for the RB's, then you're going to have your butt handed to you weekly (well, until you're fired). I love to see great RB's and yes they can make a difference, but they seldom do it without those big guys up front to make them some holes. That's JMO, but I get more excited when we get the big uglies.

I'm still waiting to see guys like Tyrone Crowder pancake some people, and it's his turn this year. If you make a big enough hole, even an average RB can hit the secondary on a regular basis, and keep the chains moving.

Bottom line: If we get Feaster (and I think we will), then that's great. If we don't, we have good enough talent already IMO. We just need that OLine to make those holes and protect Watson.

Oh yeah - anyone remember how "great" Perine at OU was last year??? When they face a great D, then they become average really quick. And he is, without a doubt, the best RB we faced last year. OU didn't score until the game was way over. Having that great RB only works well when their D isn't so great (see OU's game with Kansas and compare that to the OU/CLEMSON game).

Perine was without a doubt the best RB we faced last year? Didn't Gurly have 200 yards against us last year?

Todd Gurley & Nick Chubb say hello

Oh, and wonder what our record would be without CJ Spiller in 2009. Or, if Spiller went to Fla instead.

Yea, dime a dozen.

i only think that's true after the first tier.

There are a few guys every year (Feaster being one of them) that can step in and make an impact from day one. These guys are NOT a dime a dozen.

Once it goes past this tier and you get into the 4 star guys, I think this statement works.

Georgia had the benefit of our defense staying on the field for about the wntire second half because the offense just couldn't move the ball . Credit the UGa defense .
Gurley and Chubbhad great games, but who else did against our DL ?
Nobody . Openers are tricky .
I agree with OP , it all starts up front . A great OL can turn a decent rb into a great one , but the reverse is exceedingly rare .
