What Doeren's comments just did is encourage his players to do more of "Knocking Out" opposing team players. His comment says to his players yeah that was great we knocked a guy out....how classless and irresponsible. Didn't Sean Peyton get a years suspension for a version of that? The ACC now needs to relook and retroactively suspend #8 AND Doeren for fostering what is now becoming a retribution mentality on the field for the future games. Unbelievable..

Both are representatives of their schools and both are leaders on the field/of a team/in the locker room (however you want to spin it) Doormat said they were head hunting, Gallman wanted someone to hurt their guy. Same difference in my mind.

I hear you, but one is a Head Coach and one is a player. While they are held to a higher standard...it's not the same standard. Coach needs to get a grip on reality.

BIG difference between a Coach and a player...
Oct 24, 2016, 5:35 PM
[ in reply to Gallman pretty much did the same thing ] |

a player acts on tin the moment, and can be coached out of bad
thoughts even as it is happening.
A Coach institutionalizes the bad action by having his players - plural - and team
unify around a mentality and a method.
This isn't even Apples to Oranges - it's Shotguns to pop guns.
Doeren should be suspended....
Wayne should get healthy.

one setting policy announces the injury as a good thing,

The one who was injured informs of a wish there had been some retribution.
I did not see the play. Maybe the NCSt player should be suspended, but there is no excuse for a coach to make such a statement. It would be worse than poor form would the coach have made the statement in the heat of the moment, it is inexcusable for him to have made the statement so far removed from the event.

Entirely different.........

Most players are not coached to hurt people to the extent that we saw from the hit on Gallman and others over this past weekend. Yes, there was a time when that sort of spearing was taught, but it has long since been a relic of yesterday. It was a very close call and may have been unintentional (only the player knows), but nevertheless the result was targeting and should have been called as such.
Secondly, it is not necessary for a coach to tell players to go after an opponent who is playing dirty. Players will (and do) make those decisions on the field and on their own - either individually or in collusion after one of the own has been injured as a result of another dirty player.
When I experienced a season-ending shoulder injury after a TD, my wingback asked me who caused it as I was heading to the locker room (and hospital). I told him, then turned and watched as we kicked off to the other team. My wingback waved off the other kick receiver, caught the ball and went from one sideline to the other, dodging would-be tacklers and looking for the guy I pointed out. When he found him, he didn't even try to juke - just drove the guy nearly into the stands. As I came out of the locker room, I saw the other guy being brought in and not looking very coherent at all.
Gallman's instincts are correct when someone plays dirty. They need to be taught a lesson. It's amazing to me that our guys didn't get called for all sorts of things the rest of the game after the hit. Only good discipline and restraint can allow that.

Especially from a grown @$$ man head coach. It's comparing apples to rutabagas to draw a comparison between Gallman and Coach Doeren.
