To all recruits being spoon-fed the SEC BS..........

The TRUTH is, the ACC has been producing just as many or more NFL players as anyone, and in fact the ACC has been producing the NFL's best players for over a decade.
NFL All-Pro Appearances by Conference, 2000-2011 1 …. ACC …. 121 2 …. SEC …. 110 3 …. BIG 10 …. 95 4 …. PAC 10 …. 83 5 …. BIG 12 …. 73 6 …. BIG EAST …. 60
Don't believe the hype.

Acc was still dominating around 2000, Sec didn't start getting really good til around 2005. Regardless, if you are good enough you can get to the NFL from any league or any school.

You're going to need another angle. Your first one is officially destroyed:
NFL All-Pro Appearances by Conference, 2005-2011
ACC 78 SEC 64 BIG 10 57 PAC 10 44 BIG 12 41 BIG EAST 24

Blah Blah blah........the bottom line is that it must really suck to be in a fan base of a school who is enjoying their pinnacle, their rapture, their one big shot at the big time and still play second fiddle to their rival (a lowly acc rival at that). I liken it to a guy who has little d!ck syndrone. He knows deep down he's a fake and won't ever "measure" up. And all the the washed up coaches and all the thugs in the richland county detention center will change it. That's why no one on esecpn but louser will give them any credit.....

I lost a bet a couple years ago about which conference sent the most players to NFL. I bet ACC because I thought that I had read it somewhere beforehand. After the bet, the only stat that I found showed the SEC with more.
I'd love to go collect on this bet.

I'd be interesting in seeing the breakdown of players drafted in 2007 and later.
You raise a good point about post 2005, but that ignores that a player could have been drafted in 98 from Miami and made the all pro team in 2009 and counts for the ACC.
I imagine the ACC would still do extremely well but would be curious to see the data after the SEC elevated its play.

Clemson, however, has won a natty, as has FSU, Miami, and Ga. Tech. Alabama, LSU, Florida and Auburn have all won nattys in the last ten years.
Games are played among teams, not conferences. So yes, that means USuC STILL hasn't won anything relevant, even though members of your conference have.

I think the real difference that an SEC can tell a recruit
Feb 4, 2013, 1:45 PM
|
|
is that in the SEC- football is king
If a kid is impressed by that and wants to be apart of it- it's something to consider. If that doesn't matter to him, then it simply isn't an issue.
The ACC has that in basketball as basketball is king in the ACC. Playing at Duke, North Carolina, and now a Syracuse, etc- that is something to sell a recruit on if he's impressed by that. If he isn't - it won't matter.
For a kid going to an SEC school- playing football at Bama, Auburn, Florida, LSU, etc is something to sell the kid on.

SEC is king? The SEC is not a school
Feb 4, 2013, 1:53 PM
[ in reply to I think the real difference that an SEC can tell a recruit ] |

Kids need to commit to schools not conferences, which is what Dabo said earlier. Aside from UF, Bama and LSU the rest of the SEC can't claim dominance. If those three want to sell that they can play on a championship team then fine. but to suggest that they can play in a championship conference is stupid because a conference doesn't win a championship, a school does. i doubt Bama players were thinking "This is a great win for our conference" when they smashed ND.

Feb 4, 2013, 1:56 PM

and it's no secret to anyone for a long- long time.
It's why Dabo said "WE play an SEC schedule."
Basketball has been king in the ACC for a long time. Fans take basketball more seriously in the ACC.
Fans take football more seriously in the SEC.
That's not new news to anyone.
But if the kid doesn't really care about that- then it doesn't matter.
If I am recruiting a kid to Clemson to play basketball, you can bet your butt I'm selling him on playing for Clemson- but also that he's going to get to play at Duke, and North Carolina- and show what he has against those teams. It's a selling point.
Same goes for an SEC team in football.

if Clemson weren't in the ACC we wouldn't have had the success under Barnes or Purnell that we did. That drew in the kids. When you watch an ACC basketball game you just "feel" that you are watching a higher level game than an SEC game. It's the same the other way around whether people want to admit or not in football. There are some really bad teams in the SEC....but the difference is the majority of them are putting the $ into their programs to get better. The bottom feeders in the ACC simply don't care.

or an elite player looking to showcase his talents. And if you are an elite player, Clemson gives you plenty of opportunities to show the world.
I doubt too many Kentucky recruits are excited about going to get the a$$es kicked in front of 90-100k at Florida, LSU, Alabama etc.
I doubt Larry Shayatt was able to get far using the "well at least you'll get to play at Cameron" during his days at Clemson.

If, and I have no idea if true, but if the ACC puts as many or more players in the NBA and more players in the All-Star game, then what? That would mean the ACC puts about as many players in the NFL and NBA, and they put more top-notch guys in both leagues. Isn't that more important then calling yourselves "the king"? Just common sense should answer that question for you. I think the original point was that the SEC is not an easier pipeline to a pro contract. SEC coaches seem to push that type of propaganda, but it is simply not true.

"King" refers to the importance of the sport in the league.
Football is much more important to SEC schools than is football in the ACC overall. That's just the fact of the matter. Kids pick up on that. They see it in the stadium sizes, the passion of the fans.
If Florida State is playing Ga. Tech on a Saturday night in October, and LSU is playing Florida - fans on Tigernet are talking more about LSU and Florida than they are Florida State and Ga. Tech. That's what I mean.
It's that way with the ACC in basketball - but not in football.
That's why kids - in general- would rather play basketball for an ACC school than an SEC school.

Celebrating pro-bowls played in by Ed Reed, Lewis, Vilma, Rolle, Taylor, Wayne, Johnson, Portis when they didn't even play in the ACC is about like a gawga fan celebrating an Alabama win in the NCG. Both conferences put good players in the league.

It doesn't matter what conference Miami played in when the the original poster's data collection started. What matters is that Miami was and still is a school that puts tons of players in the league. Based on the data, the teams in the ACC have more top-notch players in the league than any other conference.

Every conference will put guys in the pros...some more some less. A young kid coming along is very gullible and lets face it...negative recruiting will continue against our conference and if we take off our orange glasses you will see what the draw is for a kid to go to a conference like the SEC. Do you want to play Duke and Wake and NC State or do you want to play Alabama, A&M and others on a weekly basis? Look how excited our own fan base got when we drew LSU for our bowl game...it was more exciting and thats the draw back or at least one of the draw back to our conference. I don't think there is one among us who would rather see our tigers playing and sec schedule rather than playing the boston colleges of the world. Its more exciting for the fans and the players and these recruits see this. There is nothing we can do about the conference we are in so we just live with it but the negative recruiting against this conference has nothing to do with the potential of reaching the league...this I assure you.

Very misleading information...
Feb 5, 2013, 12:06 PM

Kids aren't looking at making the Pro Bowl, they're primarily looking at making the NFL.
To that end the NFL lists this when asking which conference sends the most players to the NFL.
Their statistics are for the period 1992-2011:
SEC: 576
Big 10: 396
PAC 12: 250
Big 12: 224
ACC: 186
Big East: 134

Data from the NFL with link...
Feb 5, 2013, 4:09 PM
|

The numbers I posted are straight from the NFL's official website. They cover players drafted by school and by conference over the last twenty years. Being drafted and being on a current roster are not the same thing. If you need me to explain that in depth, just post that you don't understand and I'll see if I can help you.
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d828a004e/article/which-college-football-program-produces-most-nfl-talent
Again, these are players drafted to the NFL by school and conference. This is a much more important number than Pro Bowlers as players are primarily interested in the first step to football as a living, which is getting drafted.
You may not like the conference numbers, but on the same page take note of where Clemson ranks nationally at number nineteen for players drafted by school.
However, since this thread originally intended to make comparisons to the SEC, I'll also point out that Clemson at number nineteen is still behind six SEC schools in that category, but second in the ACC behind Virginia Tech.

"The SEC believes it has the best conference in college football. But does that translate to the most draft picks over the last 20 years. And what school has produced the most draft picks since 1992? We have those answers and so much more."
The other ACC schools didn't rank among the top 25 individual schools, however, their numbers are included in the conference numbers, where the ACC ranks fifth as a conference in getting players drafted and no ACC schools in the top ten, which surprised me.

Here are the numbers form the last ten years. From the 2003 draft until the 2012 draft, there were 2552 total players drafted, the SEC made up 401 of those draft picks, for 15.7% of the total players drafted. From the 2003 draft until the 2012 draft, there were 2552 total players drafted, the ACC made up 323 of those draft picks, for 12.7% of the total players drafted.

Meaning there have been 323 ACC players drafted in the last ten years alone a lot more than the 186 you have listed for the last 20 years

NO WAY Ole Miss and Auburn coming off totally horrible seasons, just "suddenly" become an attractive destination for these Elite recruits. Absolutely NO WAY!
Meanwhile, Dabo and company (so we faithfully believe) is doing things ethically and honestly and somehow getting blindsided in the last remaining days???
This is not "sour grapes" here folks. And No, I am not naive enough to think that we should get all of them, but dammm this getting rediculous!!
At least IF Adams ends up at GA, that would easier to reason, than Auburn??????
