I wonder what they would rank us if we spank UGA'S A$$? I'm thinking that if we beat UGA by a field goal, UGA would remain #1 and we would stay where we're at or drop down a cple of spots. If we run the regular season slate we may be in the top 15, we would have to be 12-1, or 13-0 to be considered for the playoffs. I only say this bc we had one season since 2010 under 10 wins and everybody believes that winning 10 games for us is over, and that Dabo forgot how he got us there. I know this, he didn't get us to the top with a transfer portal!!!

Doesn't seem right seeing a few teams ahead of us, even considering the last 3 years.
3. Oregon
6. Ole Miss
7. Notre Dame
8. Michigan
9. Penn State
10. Florida State
11. Missouri
12. LSU
13. Utah
I Felt like, if we played well (not perfect) that we'd win at least 4-5 of those 9.

Dude, Oregon would boat race us 7 out of 10 games right now. Our offense cannot keep up with them.
I always laugh when our fanbase forgets what we looked like at the end of last season.
In a single game in CFB, we could beat all 9 teams you listed, we could also lose to all 9. I think us being #14 is accurate for a preseason poll which is almost exclusively a combination of final ranking from 2023, players returning, and (to a far lesser extent) recruiting class and transfers.
Preseason ranking doesn't matter when you're playing the #1 team in the nation in Week 1. We will know immediately if we're a top 10 team or not.

We have tons of speed at LB and Corner, not to mention a D line that would be toughest they'd see all year.

considering the fact that we finished 20th last year, lost several key players off of last year's team, and did not use the portal to add any veteran talent to our roster.

All interesting observations, but the bottom line is that after years of being defacto the triple-A-level minor leagues for the NFL, the recent changes in college football—the portal, NIL, paying players salaries—makes it official. It IS the feeder for the NFL.
Coaches want to win national championships because it leads to enormous paychecks and feeds their egos. Fans want to win national championships because it gives us bragging rights. The players? At the elite level their priority is making it to the NFL, at least for a little while, in order to extend the life of a sport they have played since they were kids.
I was going to say they want to make it to the NFL to make some big bucks. But because of the recent changes in college football, many of the elite players are already multi-millionaires.
I admire Dabo for wanting to keep doing it the old-fashioned way with recruiting and coaching. But does anybody really think we won’t lose more than one game this year? Does anybody really believe we will make it to the final four? We are entering a new phase of football at Clemson. Are we going to be happy with that? We’ll see. .. .

We shall see! 2024 is going to be an interesting year. In about four months we will all see how important money is to “amateur’” sports!
Clemson isn’t a rich school and winning now is ALL about money!!!!!

I don’t like it but it is about right. I don’t like where they put Penn State and ND ( who the voters love). This should be a starting point and the goal should be to go up and be in the top 12 by the end of the season. I know Dabo doesn’t emphasize polls but sometimes things like this can be used as a benchmark to go by.

I also read where the pre-season AP poll and preseason coaches poll are only 23.5% accurate to be within +/-1 as to where a team will be in the top 25 at the end of the season. This means that out of the 25 teams they rank fewer than 5 teams will be accurate as to their final position.
