Latest Clemson bowl projections vary after 2-2 start
Some unfamiliar territory is approaching for Clemson's Tigers. Dabo Swinney's group has made the College Football Playoff each of the last six seasons, but that destination could very well be off the table now after a 2-2 start. So what does a Playoff-less postseason look like? ESPN's bowl projectio Read Update » |

Haven't we won 10 games every year since the last tire bowl?

That was 2010 and that terrible USF game. Think we won 10 with Tajh in 2011-13, Deshaun 2014-16, Bryant 2017, and Trevor 2018-2020. Gonna take some work to get back there this year for sure!

Clemson and Oklahoma St in the Cheez-it in Orlando? Saw enough of that Orlando Bowl in the Texas Tech beating back in the 00's.

After going to each National Championship Game and most of the semi-final games since 2015, I will not be wasting my money going back to Charlotte or to Jacksonville.

No, just one who has spent a lot of money supporting the team and not willing to spend even more going to a mediocre bowl to watch an ill-prepared coaching staff. How about you decide how to spend your hard-earned money and I will decide how to spend mine.

PS: I notice from your posts over the weekend that you have done your share of criticizing the coaching staff's performance. I guess that makes you a fair-weathered fan too

With that logic I assume you support players that opt out of a “mediocre” bowl game when their team doesn’t make the playoffs?
PS - check my posts all you want. I’m All In with the team and staff Clemson puts on the field - have been since the late 70’s and always will be. Spent most of last week inviting negative Nellie fans to hit the fan transfer portal and head to Clucklumbia or Raleigh where they will fit in better.

Your post is illogical. No one is giving me (or any kid of mine who went to Clemson) a scholarship to play in or attend football games. Do you go to all away games, bowl games, and playoff games? If not, why not? On your logic, you would since you are All In, and get to decide who is not All In.

Read the post again, maybe a little slower this time. I never said you weren’t all in - in fact, All In probably means something different to everyone. I may very well make the same decision you do regarding the post season this year - but what I won’t do is publicly bash the coaches or anything about the program when I make that decision. And the logic is spot on - that is exactly the same reason players give for “opting out” - not wasting their effort on a meaningless “mediocre” bowl game when their real desire was to go to the playoffs. Have a nice night.

I have a thought and I’d really like some comments on it. Back in the 50’s Clemson had two QB’s who each had a “squad” of their own 10 players : L. Shingler and H. White. We’ve wasted an abundance of talent and seen good players who aren’t getting playing time go to the portal and start for other teams. Why not give DJ and Taison each a squad, no first or second team designation, and rotate them in and out, not necessarily alternating, depending on who is being successful. It would make it harder for opponents to prepare for a given QB and would give some players who are riding the bench a chance to show their metal. What could it hurt? Nothing else has worked. I may have my players confused, but somewhere back in that earlier time we played LSU in the SugarcBowl with Billy Cannon at QB. We were supposed to get run out. We lost 7-0 on either a fumble or interception. I’m not sure the two platoon approach and the Sugar Bowl appearance were connected. I was young then. We’ve got to try something else.

That went on until teams started having one-way players. You forgot to mention they also played both offense and defense. I was a manager when that started so instead of two teams that played both ways, we had one play offense and one defense. Basically same thing we have now. The best 22 players saw most of the playing time.

Billy Cannon was a halfback also played defense. LSU used a three-platoon system. White team ( top players) who went both ways. Go team which was offense only, and the Chinese Bandits (imagine that being used today) who were defense specialists but had 3 or 4 offensive plays they could run if they got caught on field by the crazy substitution rules in place. LSU scored on a pass to Cannon late in 4th quarter.
Harvey White and Lounds Shingler ( both from Greenwood) also played safety. They were folloowed by another Greenwood QB - Joab Anderson, then Jim Parker, Jimmy Bell Thomas Ray and Jimmy Addison ( the needle) all 140 pounds.

Still can get to the Peach or Fiesta by winning out. If there is another loss, however, it wouldn’t be where we’d expect to be, but the Holiday or Sun bowls could be an interesting consolation for the fans. Get to explore a city we haven’t played in while playing an unfamiliar opponent. Clemson vs USC in San Diego or El Paso could be plenty fun
