These are the comments I kinda had hoped for at the very beginning. Arkansas makes a lot of sense from the Morris standpoint but man that would be tough for him to win with Bama/AM and others.

I understand his decision and I wish him the best of luck. But if you truly want to continue playing and I know he could not take a game time snap if he wants to redshirt. What I don't understand is why wouldn't he stay on the team, simply for the practice time and physical conditioning to prepare him for next season somewhere else?

If he would have stayed he would have played in the Syracuse game when Trevor went down and lost his eligibility. Although, I don't and didn't agree with his decision it was the right one as far as guaranteeing he would not play another snap this season.

Dabo said that he would promise not to say him if that's what he wanted to do. I trust that dabo would keep his word. But then again Kelly Bryant could have made a rational decision in the Syracuse game and said I'll go in coach and lost his redshirt.

As I interpreted it, doesn't he still have access to everything you mentioned being that he is still on a full football scholarship?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't think so....

Oct 18, 2018, 10:55 AM

Maybe someone could answer this better, but I believe he has withdrawn from Clemson. I maybe wrong but I think he cannot go on visits if he is still enrolled in classes at Clemson and on Scholly. He visited NC for their game vs. VT last week, and they showed Bryant playing to the NC sideline pre-game. So, I am pretty sure he is not at Clemson nor can he access the facilities at this time. Unless he is doing so "under the radar" with knowledge from the coaching staff.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I don't think so....

Oct 18, 2018, 11:21 AM

He can go on visits if he is enrolled in classes, but not if he is considered a member of the football team. I think he has to finish the semester to transfer academically.

One of the FURMAN QBs is currently enrolled in classes at Clemson.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He's been given his release

Oct 18, 2018, 2:33 PM

so I think that ends his relationship with the football program. An article in The State today says he's taking Online classes at Clemson, so he's technically enrolled but no longer has the benefits of a student athlete. At least that's how I read it.

Re: He's been given his release

Oct 18, 2018, 9:23 PM

Being academically enrolled and being a student athlete are two completely different things.

Tucker Israel was academically enrolled until he graduated in August, even though he left the football team in January.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I don't think so....

Oct 18, 2018, 4:08 PM [ in reply to I don't think so.... ]

They had to officially release him, thus announcing that he was released and that freed up his scholarship for someone else. No longer on scharship and officially not listed on the team allows him to go where ever he wants.
If he wishes to take classes he pays for it himself and is no different than any other student.

Oct 18, 2018, 11:17 AM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Kelly Bryant: "Thankful for everything Clemson has done for me" ]

He is no longer on a full scholarship at Clemson, he quit the team and Dabo removed his name from our Roster. That ended the scholarship at the point that roster was turned in. Now I think that Dabo could reinstate him if he chose to do, but once all was said and done, I don't think there was a chance of a reinstatement!!!

If KB is able to play and doesn't want to, the team needs to move on.

Imagine KB being on the sidelines and refusing to play against Syracuse. How would that impact the team? How would Clemson view him?

what with taking Team over after #4 left & winning over Coots, Miami in ACCCG & having us in CFP as #1 Seed.

I believe with a better outcome vs Bama, there would have been a better outcome for you & a more secure future in 2018.

Re: TNET: Kelly Bryant: "Thankful for everything Clemson has done for me"

Oct 18, 2018, 10:07 AM

I figured he'd get to this point.

Yes, it would rankle - mightily - to lose a spot you'd spent years working for...to a true freshman. Especially when you'd done well, fought, spilled blood, and beat everybody you'd faced except Alabama.

That ain't exactly an indictment, by the way. Very few college quarterbacks can beat Alabama.

He was 18-2 as a starter at Clemson. One of those losses was against Syracuse and he was knocked out before halftime.

He'd shown a ton of poise and pride up to this point, and I commend him. Did he handle the immediate aftermath of his benching as well as you'd like to see? No. But I figured once he got a bit of distance from things, this would be how he'd react. Character usually tells, and he's always shown class and character at every step of the way before.

I also still think the clean break - while probably more acrimonious than we'd have liked - was the best thing for both Bryant and Clemson. I do think if he shows his quality somewhere else the judgment of "system QB" that's slapped on him at the moment might lift some and he'll get a legit chance to develop in the NFL. IMHO all he really needs to do is clean up his throwing mechanics and a good NFL tutor can certainly help with that. He just needs the same chance to develop that, say, Tyrod Taylor has gotten. Bryant gets that and I certainly think he can do as well and stick in the league because he assuredly has the football measureables, IQ, and coachability.

Good luck, Kelly Bryant. You won a ton of games for us and I'm proud of the local boy for how well he's done, and I wish you good fortune in the future.

Re: TNET: Kelly Bryant: "Thankful for everything Clemson has done for me"

Oct 18, 2018, 10:53 AM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Kelly Bryant: "Thankful for everything Clemson has done for me" ]

Kelly Bryant was 16-2 as a starter. In one of the losses, he was injured at halftime and probably shouldn't have played in the first place. The other was against the future National Champion and #1 defense in the country playing their best game of the season.

Had he not played between DW4 and TL, he would be rightly remembered as one of the best QBs we've had at Clemson. He won games despite not being the best passer. He beat out 5* Hunter Johnson—and it wasn't close—for a reason.

It was a strange situation: KB was playing some of the best ball of his career when he was demoted. Do you bench a senior starter who is playing great and doing everything you want him to do for a true freshman who is making throws that a lot of guys who play on Sunday can't make? That's a tough question.

KB got hurt against GSU and Trevor got hot against GT, so I can see where KB would be frustrated at how the competition played out. After playing a great game on the road against our toughest opponent, Texas A&M, he really didn't get much of an opportunity to defend his job. Our opening drives have been underwhelming all year, no matter the QB or opponent.

Kelly Bryant was given 48 hours to decide whether he would give up his dreams or leave a place and a team he loved due to a situation he had no control over. So yeah, he was emotional and said some things in public that he should have kept private.

KB is a good QB, a good person, a Clemson graduate, and I wish him well.

Well I don’t think playing the likes of Auburn, Bama, LSU, and A&M next year with far less talent would be a good idea. Not to mention if the starting QB decides to stick around they will have 6 QBs already on the roster. Don’t think it would be very nice of him to try and come stick his hand in there cookie jar. They already have guys who have put there heart, soul, blood, sweat, and tears into that program.

I don't know what all was said between KB and the coaching staff before and during the season, and we won't know until the 30-for-30 comes out. But I think it's safe to say that KB and the coaching staff were not on the same page as far as expectations for this season.

During the season:

Both QBs did well against Furman.
Kelly Bryant had a great game against Texas A&M.
He had some bad luck against GSU when teammates messed up good drives, then he got hurt.
Then, after our usual slow start against GT, Trevor got hot and KB didn't get much of a chance to play.

Given how this played out, I think he would have liked to stay, but lost confidence in the coaching staff.

I also, like many setiments above, wish him success. His comment about Chad Morris being an honest man and great coach is magnified in Dabo Sweeney. Nobody better. He did leave our program with some bitterness in his heart because our coaches gave him his opportunity but he was bested after 4 games by someone better. He abandoned the team he claims to love for self serving reasons. Very disappointed in his maturity, but it is what it is. Move on. He has to live with his decision.

Glad he has come out and said this - no question its been a tough time for him. I do think you can argue that his potential for a future in football would have been better served by staying here and he would have continued to play without question. Now he is likely to simply be served-up to other teams because the last I heard he was not visiting AL or Ohio State so his supporting cast will not be comparable to what he had here. NO chance ever that he would have stayed or been allowed to stay here with a "no play" agreement. There may be a worse idea but I can't think what it would be. What are you guys smoking today? haha FYI the Furman kid is in a special dual-degree (dual enrollment) program which is why a Clemson student was able to play against Clemson.

Several things first. I wish that he had actually talked to Coach Sweeney instead of sending him the “I’m out” tweet. I also wish he had left better, which would have been good for him and his friends that remained on the team. I do take into consideration his age, the powerful ego that comes with being the Man and it had to hurt and embarrass him.
Wherever Kelley lands I hope you finds happiness and the ability to play his final year. Now let’s move on to NC State and that stomping they are going to get in the valley.
